It is always good to see people taking responsibility for their actions, and it is difficult to do this because they need moral courage and sometimes the results of moral courage ends in death. They Moral courage is the ability to stand up for something you believe in even when the other s does not. The famous example moral courage is Mother Teresa, Martin Luther King, and John Lennon. All of them have stand and go against the matter by themselves. The Crucible, by Arthur Miller, first publish in 1953, is about the Salem witch trials that took place In Massachusetts in 1692. John Proctor faces a life changing decision either tell the truth about his adultery and witchcraft or continue to hide the truth. In The Crucible, by Arthur Miller, John Proctor develops from an immoral coward to a morally brave man by telling the truth even though he ends up dead. This essay will show how John Proctor is an immoral coward at the beginning of the play, how he begins to become morally stronger to save his wife, Elizabeth, and then how he becomes a morally brave man through the conflict with Danforth and the court. John Proctor is an immoral coward at the beginning of the play. He could be seen as a selfish or self-centered person. John only cares about his own reputation while he does not care about others’. As a married man, he is coward because he sleeping around on his wife. He is totally selfish because only him feel pleasure about having affair with Abigail. “Abby, I may think of you softly from time to time. But I will cut off my hand before I’ll ever reach for you again.” (Miller, 23) John says this to Abigail because it is the way that John can try to get through and end the relationship between them. John Proctor is coward because his behaviour does not match his words. He said that he does not want to reach Abigail anymore but he keeps talking to her. This action
