This is demonstrated by her oxymoronic language “Beautiful tyrant, fiend angelical, / Dove-feathered raven” and “damned saint, an honourable villain". All these words contradict each other, just as how her love for both Romeo and Tybalt contradict each other. Her speech here clearly shows her state of mind, which is evidently so confused such that she is incoherent. This is probably because she is torn between her love for Romeo and her love and sense of duty to Tybalt. She is in a stage of shock and disbelief that Romeo killed Tybalt and is absolutely contradicted, having no inkling of how she should be feeling towards Tybalt’s death by
Lets dig deeper into those little things that make her one of the most profound poets in American Literature. Emotion is used very often in Nikki Giovanni's poems. Three poems stood out the most in terms of emotions. They were "Blacksburg under siege: 21 August 2006"(1), "I am the Ocean"(55), and "We are Virginia"(107). The first and last poems evoked sad but happy emotions towards the end of the poem.
Anne Bradstreet, recognized as one of the earliest and greatest female writers in America, wrote poetry that expressed the different aspects of the Puritan religion she followed and the hardships of colony life. However, Bradstreet was not your average, unspoken Puritan woman. While she did take her devotion to God very seriously, she was also poet, a woman with an education, and one of the first people to people to get published in the New World (Encarta CD-Rom).
Anne Bradstreet was born sometime around 1612 in Northamptonshire, England. She was the daughter of Thomas Dudley and Dorothy Yorke.
Alexandria Edwards LIT 295-V1 Oct 14, 2011 Major Paper 2 The set of poems by Edna St.Vincent Millay are from an essay she wrote called Fatal Interview. These poems discuss the journey of a relationship between Millay and her previous love. The poems start out with a description of a brand new relationship. They are completely in love and it’s the type of love you only hear of in the old literature. The second poem goes into describing how their love is still there.
The author again explains this pure emotion, “That the wind came out of the cloud by night/ chilling and killing my Annabel Lee” (25-26). Poe is telling us that her life was taken unfairly and that the heavens were against them and dramatizes the unhappy mood. Without metaphors I think it would be hard to display the mood creatively. Next, Poe uses personification to illuminate the setting. The narrator continuously talks about a kingdom by the sea which highlights the mystical part of the mood.
This was careless and senseless of Romeo to do, as a couple of hours ago he was “in love” with Juliet’s cousin Rosaline. He is simply acting on the feelings he has at the moment, and decisions made impulsively or rashly are poor choices and usually result in disaster. Another example of Romeo acting on his impulsive emotions, was when Mercutio had died. This anger had boiled up inside him, and he suddenly had this courage
In modern society the concept of guilt is commonly misinterpreted for fear. For example in today's society people of conscience may fear that a poor person might die on the streets. However fear is present but their is more guilt towards the homeless person. In Macbeth the same events happen, from Macbeth thinking Banquos ghost is just a fear of his, and it was made by the witches, he chooses to ignore it however Macbeth makes the crucial mistake of the misjudgement of fear and guilt. Macbeth seeing Banquos ghost is not his fear but his guilt over killing his best friend.
The critic from library.thinkquest.org is correct in saying that "...the witches did not actually do anything to make Macbeth kill the king. They tempted him, but it was his own ambition that leads him to commit the crime." Although Macbeth's temptation started with the words of witches'; the true cause of his downfall was from his inner struggle, as well as greed and ambition. Macbeth chose to believe he was cursed by fate. In terms of the fate and magical aspect of the play, solid evidence is missing that says that the witches play a part in any kind of magic or fate altering aspects.
Someone even wrote a song titled “The Murderous Blizzard”. No typical blizzard will ever compare to it, none in history. The death tolled could have been minimal or better yet nonexistent if there had been technology in place to protect the people in those counties. As well as if there was someone in that telegraph office to receive the alert and communicated it to the resident of those counties in order to prepare for
They hold all qualities of tragic heroes, It may seem like they are just star-crossed lovers who die because of their families war but there’s much more to it. Throughout the story Romeo shows many flaws. He is very impulsive and doesn’t make the wisest decisions. For example killing Tybalt, he says in Act 3, scene 1 on page 125, Romeo quickly regrets his decision and says “O, I am fortune’s fool!”. He means that fate has made a fool of him.
