Consumers who have HMO pay a premium for coverage on medical cost and delivery of health care. Point-of-service plan (POS) is an open HMO. This plan allows members to choose a provider not on the HMO’s network and reduces restrictions. Out-of-network service must be paid by members and the deductible can be costly. The preferred provider organization (PPO) has premiums and copayments that are higher than the ones in HMO and PPO plans.

Treatments and procedures can be very different depending on the situation, and the comparative effectiveness research system develops the most effective approach to every situation. There are many benefits of having a comparative effectiveness research system in today’s society. The two most important benefits of the comparative effectiveness system are the improvement in quality care and cost of healthcare. In a 2009 report by the Institute of Medicine, it was stated that, “comparative effectiveness research provides an opportunity to improve the quality and outcomes of health care by providing more and better information to support decisions by the public, patients, caregivers, clinicians, purchasers and policy makers” (Jonas, 281). This system has demonstrated that expensive medical therapies don’t have to be used to treat patients.
Telemedicine allows the use of medical information exchanged from one site to another via electronic communications to improve patients’ health status (ATA, 2011). Patient provider portal is an emerging information technology tool which allows the client to access personal health data. This helps the clients to be increasingly involved in their own care, enhances patient provider communication, improves clinical outcomes, access to care, and reduces the inequality in distribution of care due to geographic reasons. The patient provider portal is increasingly used and implemented throughout United States. The
There are different types of healthcare delivery systems available to meet the need of each patient. The United States is very unique when it comes to the system of healthcare delivery. Americans in the U.S. however are not automatically covered by health insurance. There are however various health care services in the United States designed to ensure that quality healthcare be given based on the patients’ illness and financial background.
Quality Management Assessment Summary HCS/451 Quality Management Assessment Summary The health field has many different parts that help make it run smooth; one important factor is quality management. Quality management in healthcare has evolved over the year to address increased demands from consumers related to the quality of care and services, as well as to address problems in patients’ outcomes (McLaughlin, & Kaluzny, 2006). Quality management is best described as a systematic and continuous process that organizations use to deliver products and services that meet or exceed customer expectations (McLaughlin, & Kaluzny, 2006). The following assessment will help in defining quality care, and mention key concepts of quality management that are used within a nursing facility. The following assessment will also help with making some short and long-term goals, and will also target any internal and external factors that may affect the nursing facility to reach any potential and set goals.
When ensuring that every patient receives quality care there are several things we must consider such as healthcare costs, medical technology, and most of all the credentials of physicians chosen to render services to patients. All these things play a key role in providing quality healthcare. First there is the insurance part of our healthcare system and many are concerned about the rising cost in healthcare. Managed care companies are collecting more in premiums but yet paying less for services rendered to it is members. Most people have a managed healthcare plan through an employer or self employment.
How might competition impact the services provided to the patient? How does the improvement upon the resources, tools, and competency of medical staff personnel involve the element of competition? If we were to consider how far modern medicine has evolved within the last several decades, it is obvious that the competition for further improvement has allowed the health care industry to evolve exponentially. The services provided to the patient, the resources available to the patient, the tools utilized during patient treatment, and the level of knowledge and expertise of the medical staff all impact the proficiency and reputation of the health care organization. As a patient we place the utmost faith and fidelity within the hands of those providing treatment, we are entrusting personal information about ourselves with the unanimous understanding that our best interests will always remain a priority, and we expect successful treatment regardless of the reason or purpose for the visit.
With this knowledge I plan to work toward a more cost effective and delivery system with healthcare provided to the patient population. In building a stronger healthcare system it will not only be profitable, but will also provide better care to all the patient population. As a registered nurse (RN), I have learned that I need to stay flexible and be able to adjust and adapt to the constant change that comes along in my profession. Also as an RN, I look at the healthcare profession as a revolving door, which constantly spins out new concepts, methods, and approaches. I think this will help prepare me for a management position in my field because it is imperative for a manager in this profession to have the ability to adapt, adjust and welcome new ideas and concepts directed to him or her.
Health promotion enables people to increase control over their health and to improve their health, which does not rely solely on one discipline of health but is rather a multidisciplinary scope that intertwines health education and health interventions and involves individuals, family, communities, state and federal government.
