Dee in "Everyday Use" is a rude, selfish, and high maintenance kind of character. Dee does not like the house she lived in as a child. As a matter of fact, when the house started burning right in front of her eyes, she stood there concentrating, watching every piece of the house burn to flames. Dee did not even hellp her mother carry Maggie out of the burning building. She did not care about the house nor her family.
Maria’s mother acts fast and hides Maria and Alberto in the hole her father made for their safety. Maria’s mother scarifies herself for the safety of her children. If Maria’s mother went into the hole with them the Contras would of notice the untouched breakfast on the table and would search for them and kill them all. By Maria’s mother staying behind the Contras thought they got everyone in the house and would not search for Maria and Alberto. Trauma begins when Maria hears everything from the hole and the torturing and screaming of her mother.
They woke to the sounds of their quarreling neighbors around 3 in the afternoon and it was obvious that they missed their first day of work. Sandra was okay with it being the careless person she was, but Mildra was outraged she swore to never speak to Sandra again. Sandra obviously had no respect for their friendship and disregarded every rule that Mildra had set up before they went out. Sandra realized that she had crossed the line too she never felt so bad in her life. She managed to ruin things for the one person she cared about more than anything.
She acted as if nothing had happened & the next day took David to the hospital, trying to convince the doctor he has fallen off the top bunk of the bed. David declared, “But my fear kept the accident our secret. I knew if I ever told anyone, the next “accident” would be worse.” Once, David was dropped off at his Aunt Josie’s house & tried to escape. Mother found out about this & she smacked, punched, & kicked him until he crumpled to the floor. She also crammed a bar of soap down his throat & to think David attempted to escape his aunt’s house, because he actually missed her.
On chapter eight, she hits a girl called Carly because she called Josie a ‘wog’. Since Carly’s dad was out of control, Josie calls her dad to defend herself since he is a barrister. This definitely makes the barbeque event pretty useless since both of them have broken their promise to keep out of each other’s lives. The eighth chapter gave us an idea that the barbeque even is useless between families; even though Michael has fled eighteen years ago. This event gives us another idea that we have no one better to rely on, than your family.
Pontellier leaves her husband and abandons her kids by moving into a house of her own. Ms. Pontelliers time at Grand Isle and her time with Robert made her a different person, a person in search for something that she never finds. Robert and Ms. Pontellier then meet again and spend time together, but toward the end Robert again knows that they can’t and should not be together. Edna Pontelliers selfishness and no regard for anyone else made her realize the neglect that she had put upon her sons and relationship with Robert would of never worked out and would of never fulfill her dreams and desires. Feeling like the world is crumbling right under her Ms. Pontellier runs herself to the only think that can free her….
They know that they are both fighting to survive and so katniss can go back home to take care of prim mostly and her mother. And the capital doesn’t like it and right at the last minute before they take their lives, they change the rules of the games to show everyone that they are still in power and not anything can happen in the hunger games, so be scared, very scared. In the book, katniss father gets killed in a mining explosion and can no longer provide for them, so katniss has to step in and become the household income of the house. The mother is out and no one’s home, katniss’s seen this and has to do something. She can’t let her sister die from starvation, so she hunts for food, and becomes a good hunter at shooting arrows.
This comment further angers Kelly, and he, being drunk enough to not realize his own strength or actually register what he is doing, pushes Evelyn in a fit of anger. The children quickly come to their mother’s aid and call for an ambulance. When Evelyn gets back from the hospital, Kelly tries to make sense of what he did by confiding in her how he gets taunted at work. This is when the reader really finds out how Kelly feels about her contesting. Though he is grateful for it, he tells his wife how it is almost unbearable to work with these men all day after she wins a big prize, because he constantly gets taunted
