Hurricane Sandy Analysis Hurricane sandy affected people's ability to become self-actualized by causing two possibility with one being a tear in the system of Maslow's Hierarchy of needs and the other causing a person to get closer to it. In a fictional world, there is two girls, one is Kathleen and the other one is Demetra. Both of them have had their homes destroyed by sandy and all of their belongings have been water damaged. Both have had the same exact problems and both live in a family of 4 with 1 brother, and two parents with none of their family members being hurt. Her refrigerator was destroyed and they had not prepared well for the storm so all they had to eat were a few cans of peas that were in the basement. It was Kathleens least favorite food and other food was not accessible because the supermarkets were destroyed as well. Kathleen quickly realized that she would be very hungry for a few weeks. Her need for nourishment was at risk. As for safety, her house was completely destroyed with no walls being left intact. What's worse is that her basement has no lock on it whatsoever so that means that anybody can walk into their house and rob them. This risk is greater magnified through the fact that other people most likely did not have anything either and would most likely resort to stealing if necessary. Kathleens sense of safety is completely diminished. She looks up to her parents and tries to hold them, but her mom shuns her away because she is too busy fighting the dad. The first and most common one, physiological needs, were quickly tossed out the window when they failed to prepare extra food for the storm. Safety was no longer there anymore due to her house being completely open so her safety needs obviously crumbled. Her family shunned her so her love needs were absolutely not met. Her cognitive needs fail all too fast. Her aesthetic, completely wrecked. Kathleens path to self actualization has completely went the opposite
