It can be the key to having successful relationships both personally and professionally. As a nurse working the health care profession, having a key understanding of health care communication plays a major role in health outcomes. It is also imperative to have knowledge of therapeutic communication theories and principles as well as the relevance of effective personal and professional communication impact on the health care setting. According to The University of Boston (n.d), “Health Communication encompasses the study and use of communication strategies to inform and influence individual and community decisions that enhance health.” This plays a crucial role in the health care industry as clinical specialist, patients and families must maintain shared communication in order to sustain a positive favorable outcome of all parties. Working towards a common goal requires being able to articulate thoughts and ideas with clarity and conciseness.
Curriculum Development Paper Vicky Doss, RN, BSN NUR 588/Developing and Evaluating Educational Programs May 28, 2012 Monie Nuckles MSN, RN, PhD(c) Curriculum Development This paper develops a curriculum to for an educational program to be presented to surgical intensive care (SICU) nursing staff at the Department of Veterans Affairs. The educational program is based upon a needs assessment done at an earlier time and concluded that the current highest priority need for the unit is documentation. This educational program is being developed in order to help meet rising needs that have been voiced regarding a new documentation system. In a world where electronic medical records are becoming the norm nurses must be understand the significance
To enable nurses to systematically evaluate evidence for practice hanson et al (2008) suggested the use of critiquing tools which is achieved by using criteria of scientific merit and issues of practicality and feasibility. This research will be evaluated using Caldwell, Henshaw and Taylor’s (2005) critiquing framework as a guide (Appendix 1). Boswell and Cannon (2009) states that nurses must improve their knowledge and base their provision of care on the most current and up-to-date health information available in order to provide such care more effectively. This is achieved using evidence-based practice (EBP). EBP is defined by Polit and Beck (2010) as the use of the best clinical evidence in making patient care decisions.
Critical Thinking In Healthcare Grand Canyon University AMP-450V Leadership and Vocation July 19, 2015 Critical thinking and decision making is a vital part of professional nursing necessary to provide high quality and safe health care for our clients. Critical decision making is using critical thinking to arrive at a decision for a specific situation. Critical thinking is self-directed, self-disciplined, self-monitored, self-corrective thinking, and it’s presupposes is to subscribe to values of excellence and give careful thought before making a decision (Benner, Hughes, & Molly, 2008). With this in consideration we would look at the given scenario and answer the question and analyze the ramifications of Mike’s decisions.
By thinking about the duty of care that we owe patients when panning our work, we can consider what we are doing is in the best interest of the patient. This also includes not only physical risks to the patient but protecting their dignity and respect. 1.2 Explain how duty of care contributes to the safeguarding or protection of individuals. By knowing that duty of care must be exercised towards every patient worked with provides a clear guide as to how we should behave and how we must consider those we work with. By following a code of practise and thinking about duty of care means that our practice will be safer as we are stopping to think about what to do in the best interest of the patient.
A job description to fill a position for a Medical and Health Services Manager must be geared toward finding the very best for the position, but also to find the very best that will help achieve and maintain the organization’s goals. Human Resource Management (HRM), in developing a job description, must go through the strategic HR planning which enables HRM to analyze an organization’s external and internal environments (Youseff, 2012). This leads HRM to the job analysis and job design. According to Youssef (2012), “Job analysis and job design are critical for the success of subsequent Human HRM stages.” Once HRM has collected the data, the data is then analyzed, which leads into the job description. The job to be performed in terms of tasks, duties, and responsibilities to be fulfilled are the characteristics a job description identifies (Youssef, 2012).
Data, Information, Knowledge, and Wisdom Walden University Transforming Nursing & Healthcare NUR 6051D-2 December 29, 2013 Data, Information, Knowledge, and Wisdom The American Nurses Association states that “Nursing Informatics (NI) is a specialty that incorporates nursing science, computer science, and information science to control and communicate data, information, knowledge, and wisdom in the nursing practice” (2008, p.1). The use of data, information, knowledge, and wisdom is very essential to maintain nursing and informatics; for nurses to accurately perform in improving the quality of patient care. For instance in research, it is necessary to sort through data into valid information, and to transfer that information into knowledge, and then lastly to convert that knowledge into wisdom. The rationale of gathering significant data, information, and knowledge is to make sensible evaluations. The purpose of this paper is to inform the reader on the necessary steps it takes to conduct a research on a clinical question, how to organize that information, how to use that information to gain knowledge and wisdom, and lastly to utilize that wisdom in their practice.
The implementation of EHRs in LTC facilities or home health can manage patients care to promote improvements in the patients outcome and possible help decrease medical cost. In this forever changing healthcare industry, which stresses continuity of care, the movement to push for EHRs in LTC facilities is necessary. Review of another study stressed that the healthcare team is vital in the implementing of EHRs. The healthcare team approach is vital to the success of the EHRs and vice versa. If done effectively, care coordination puts patients at the center of the care process, encouraging, engaging as well as responsibility.
Assessment Tools Analysis NURS 440 Health Assessment and Promotion of Vulnerable Population Assessment Tools Analysis Paper Assessment is the most important skill a nurse can possess to give competent patient care. Broom (2007) states that, “assessment is an integral part of the nursing process during which nurses collect information about the child and family to devise a care plan” (p. 22). Assessment initiates the plan for patient care because the findings from the nursing assessment will initiate the nursing process. Assessment tools are created to gather information about patients. Many assessment tools are available for nurses and other health care practitioners, and each can be used for specific purpose.
As the “most medically trained,” Ms. W plays a significant role as a member of the interdisciplinary team. Not only should she assess and provide care to the client but she needs to appropriately delegate to the other medical professionals at the clinic. Delegating involves assigning tasks, both physical (assessment) and mental (teaching) that are within the team members’ scope of practice. Ms. W must at this point, be educated and able to recall the “roles,” or legal definition of each members’ job title. After appropriately delegating, Ms. W must then supervise that all duties are done in the right manner and within scope.
