Michael Air Jordan Michael Jordan has been considered the greatest basketball player to ever play. He was born on February 17th 1963 in Brooklyn New York. As a sophomore he was a skinny 5-11 guard who got cut from his basketball team but after the next summer he grew to 6-3 and was starting to become really good at basketball. He started his basketball stardom at North Carolina University after he made a game winning shot to help North Carolina win the NCAA championship. During his sophomore year in college he was named College player of the year.
The Art of Coaching Basketball The enjoyment of basketball has always been in my life. I played for almost ten years and I love the sport very much. Two years ago, a local parent in my hometown of Butler, Pennsylvania called me about coaching a 5th grade basketball team. He knew that my dream has always been to coach basketball, and he knew I would do a good job. He offered me the job and he said that a little money would be in the deal also.
My first experience playing organized basketball began when I was in the fifth grade on an after school program in the old armory. We played every Saturday morning and I remember that this is where I became the best point guard ever. At least that was the mentality I had because I thought I knew where my basketball career was headed. Little did I know at that time, the odds of me becoming a professional NBA star were not in my favor. Nevertheless, I continued on with my dad’s support and mentoring to be the best player the Arkansas River Valley had ever laid eyes on.
Sherman Alexie has brought himself into his writing by including some of his personal experience in this young adult novel. In the novel, a underlining plot in the story is Junior’s run through his freshman basketball season on the Varsity team at Reardan High School. He makes varsity after an intense battle with the teams best player, Roger. Even though he is the best shooter on the team, Junior felt he wouldn’t get a lot of playing time, which at first he doesn’t, but then he becomes the teams spark plug, their 6th man, averaging 12 points off the bench. When came time to play his former school, Wellpinit, he started his first game.
Over that summer I saw myself improve as a player. It also helped that I grew 2 inches over that summer as well, but at the end of it all I thought I was ready for the shot at playing real basketball. When I arrived at the high school for the first day of school I felt like I was in the land of giants even at me standing at 6 foot 2 and a half inches tall. After a few weeks of settling in the fall workouts were starting for basketball and I was excited to go. When I got there it became a different story entirely.
They did not have too many players, but at the time Doug looked like he was seven feet tall. When we finally played them we were pretty worried because Drew was our biggest player and was short compared to Doug. We started off the game pretty solid and scored the first couple points, but by halftime we were down at least 30 points. People in the stands were not into the game at all and kids who were waiting for the next game left the gym. Mr. Johnson took Doug out for the third quarter, and by some stroke of luck everyone on our team caught fire.
I remember the first quarter so well. I played horrible that quarter which I couldn’t understand coming off an outstanding performance from the season opener where I recorded a school record for the amount of tackles by a single player in one game. I couldn’t understand why I was having such a bad first quarter. Was it because of the mixed emotions and excitement for this big game? Was it because I was thinking too much because it was on live TV?
My best friend and I promised each other to train as hard as we could for 9 months to become the best. Before this moment I never really put in one hundred percent of my effort into something. Over the next couple months I dedicated myself to being a student athlete. By the end of the season I was voted the most improved player and the Most Valuable Player of the conference. My grades also improved tremendously having a 3.7 my senior year, my
Basketball Acquaints Me a Lot A basketball game is held in our medical school every three years which means every one of us has the only opportunity to be honored. The winning team is supposed to be awarded prizes, including money, cell phones and mp4 players. Accordingly, the faculty of the winner will also be rewarded a considerable sum of money which is used as budgets of scientific research and scholarship for independent innovation. The same situation where the seniors are dominant in the competition happened every time. Members of the defending champion always enjoyed it and took it for granted that they were unbeatable and absorbed in the past.
I had not lost a gymnastics meet since 2006. After a long, undefeated season, the fear of failure, knowing anything could happen at any moment, was always lurking in the back of my mind. In the gymnastics world I was known as one of the most confident gymnasts in the country. I set goals for myself in order to maintain focus and to push myself like never before. My goal for my freshman year, my twelfth year as a gymnast, was to become a world champion.
