I am an expert and I am a professional.1 Every day, Basic Training Soldiers mutter these words as they recite the Soldier’s Creed. What does it mean to be a professional? Professionals use inspirational, intrinsic factors like the life-long pursuit of expert knowledge, the privilege and honor of service, camaraderie, and the status of membership in an ancient, honorable, and revered occupation.2 The United States Army is a Profession of Arms compromised of experts certified in the ethical application of land combat power, serving under civilian authority, entrusted to defend the Constitution and the rights and interests of the American people.2 The purpose of this essay is to identify why the Human Resources (HR) Sergeant has an integral role in the Profession of Arms.…show more content…
There are two important areas of balance. First, you must maintain the balance of relationship between the Army’s four fields of expertise and its current and potential future operating environment. The second area of balance is the relationship between the Army’s culture and climate and its institutional practices. Merriam-Webster’s Dictionary defines bureaucracy as a system of government or business that has many complicated rules and ways of doing things.3 “Good bureaucracy” that provides the intuitional support needed for the profession to thrive is critical.2 Leaders must ensure profession takes precedents. What role does the HR Sergeant play in the Army Profession? The Human Resources Sergeant has a responsibility to ensure all other members of the Army are free of distractions and worries. They do so by providing support that affects Soldiers’ overall readiness and well-being. The HR Sergeant in an organization must ensure Soldiers are combat-ready.
