Also, how he changes throughout the book is very noticeable. Elie, had to make a few major life-threatening decisions at the concentration camp. He had one major one with his dad. He would do almost anything for his dad in the beginning. But, his dad was getting beat up and him or his dad could not move.
The crew drifted for more than ninety days in three tiny whaleboats, succumbing to weather, hunger, disease, and ultimately turning to drastic measures in the fight for survival. Nathaniel Philbrick uses little known documents including a long lost account written by the ship's cabin boy and penetrating
Tashimoto had no idea what the man was talking about. Watson argued with the man for a while wanting him to admit what he had done to him in that camp while he was a POW. The man would not admit to doing anything to Watson during World War II. This angered Watson more and more until finally he just killed him. Watson was never able to forgive the Hyena for what he had done to him in the camp.
“D”: Roger Chillingworth Roger Chillingworth, Hester Prynne’s, deformed husband, slowly transforms into what many call the Black Man. Chillingworth’s transformation, ultimately detrimental to Reverend Dimmesdale’s health, began once he questioned the reverend about sin, and his obsession did not, “set him free again until he had done all” of his searching (117). He leeched info out of poor Dimmesdale every day until, “there was a fiend at his elbow” his own self (155)! Chill., hired to help nurse Dimm. back to health, actually took more years off his life.
This can be observed when Vladek wakes up Artie early in the morning to ask him to help fix the roof (page number). Artie refuses and we can later on observe Artie telling his wife that he rather feel guilty than to travel to Queens to help his father (page number). Then once he was with his father, he started feeling guilty he asked his father if he needs help fixing anything (II, 99). The guilt of not helping his father ate up at him and he realized with wasn’t very son like of him not to help his father out. Another example of Artie feeling guilty about not being a good son is seen when he goes to see his therapist.
Bone doesn’t have family support. One of the reasons why Bone doesn’t have a family support is that His stepdad abuses him, as he says“the nights he’d sneaked into my room and made me touch his d*** and suck on it” (pg. 195). Abuse leads to some psychological problems. The problem with Bone is that he is scared of his stepdad.
The relationship of a young man and his friends and family is more then important. In evidence, many men join the group and dies young since they are constantly facing dangers and dies they leave behind them a family who cared for them, all this happens because in the family most of the time a young male didn’t have the male figure in the house and because of that ‘’Poor self-esteem may lead boys and men to hyper-masculine activity.’’ (P.285) Plus the mother is absent because she become the ‘’breadwinner’’(p.13) when the male dies. This is why black men are not privileged and this is injustice for them not to have what they need the most, it brings also some sadness when the father of a young boy is in jail because he is or was a danger to the city and the kid gradually losses his confidence and when years passes he is also misguided and he brings sadness for the only parent and his siblings. In addition, ‘’Many of these men were ridiculed, blamed, and rejected by their families for failing to fulfill the provider role’’(p. 206), they often do fell rejected and embarrassed when after being in jail many men would not get a job. When the father is absent young males have lower level of confidence and less friends, they also search for that father comfort outside the house witch is difficult to get when in the society
You would think because he missed his son’s birth, he would try to make up for it and be a great father. But he was never around to raise his son and do fatherly things with William, like teach him valuable life lessons and such. As an adult, William tried to let his father know that their relationship wasn’t steady because William only knew so much about his father, and the rest were fabrications. All he wanted to know was the truth, and Edward kept telling tall tales. This only caused the deteriorating relationship between father and son to
Then her Brother Todd moved in with his family (which made it 14) but he wouldn’t even go inside until he got sick and coughed up blood. The life of poverty is painful in every way always hoping for handouts which would probably never
People would creep in at night on Eli’s father and hit him to be able to steal the little food he had. I will never forget the image of the sick father getting beat for his food because that was his food and nobody had the right to steal it. He was sick and the little food he had he needed. I felt pain when I read of this part in the book. The pain the father must have been in trying to fight for his food and then getting it taken from him and having to feel hunger and sick.
