By not mustering for work on time, I was placing my supervisor in a difficult situation. In addition, I am responsible for knowing where to be and when to be there. If that means calling my supervisor or the watch, the night before then that is what I need to do. Being punctual, for any member of the armed forces, is extremely important to the defense of the United States of America. Dependability, accountability, consistency and discipline are all completely related to being on time.
The Importance of Accountability 2 Accountability is of outmost importance in the military. Having accountability of gear, weapons, soldiers, and yourself is what gets the mission done. Not knowing where any of these are can be very detrimental. We do this by reporting to our chain of command, always being at the right place, right time, and right uniform. This chain of command is put in place to keep operations going smoothly in the Army, so that information is passed through as quickly and efficiently as possible.
The work of the U.S. Army is a complex combination of missions, tasks and responsibilities. A soldiers work entails building one assignment onto another. We fulfill our obligations as a part of a unit every time we resist the temptation to take shortcuts that might undermine the integrity of the final product. Respect- Treating people as they should be treated. Respect is what allows us to appreciate the best in other people.
For example, during wartime battles would have not been won. Thus, the chain of command is important from the highest level down to the lowest level. Obeying a Noncommissioned officer is important in my daily duty day as a soldier. In combat related situations orders are carried out without discussion and hesitation. A soldier does not realize why things happen the way they do in the military but they must follow orders from people who out rank them.
Following order falls under Duty, Respect and Integrity because it is a soldier’s duty to obey the orders of his/her non-commissioned and commissioned officers. It is part of respect because you are respecting your higher up when the give you an order and you follow it. It is part of Integrity because when you follow the orders given to you, you are doing what is right both legally and morally. Following orders is a big part of military function and history. Following orders allows the U.S Army to function proper order and bearing.
Army leader motivates both within and outside the cycle of command to pursue actions and steer decisions for the greater good of the mission. Some people hold that, as long as someone can give others some task to accomplish by yelling and barking at them is sufficient to qualify one with qualities of good leadership. Not at all, being a good leader is a lot more
There are many reasons of why it is important for a soldier to follow the orders they are given, discipline, an effective combatant, and basic soldiering skills are all examples. When a soldier doesn’t follow the orders they were given it doesn’t only affect them it can affect everyone in the team or unit and the goals they have set for any particular mission. The ability of soldiers to understand and be able to carry out orders can directly lead to the success or failure of a given mission. Which is why there is a great importance behind a soldiers ability to follow lawful orders given. As an NCO, giving orders to soldiers happens all the time.
These orders are assumed (By them.) to be lawful (i.e. - not promoting illegal actions. ), and a subordinate whom disobeys them does so "at his peril" ( Risking legal sanction.) Recruits are taught to obey, immediately and without question, orders from their superiors, right from day-one of boot camp.
If you don't have accountability of personal gear then when you attempt to conduct a mission you may not have all the gear required, and that could cost you not only failing your mission, but could also cause the slowing of others performing their own missions, potentially causing massive delays depending on what is missing, and who is missing it. Having accountability of each and every peice of ppe at all times lets your leadership know how many soldiers they can spare for various details and still continue with the mission at hand. Another thing that is important to keep track of, is who has access to the areas you are storing any equipment in, as not all ppl belong in these areas and cant always be trusted or may be enemys outright. If soldiers don't have the equipment they need or the equipment they were issued then it could cause a major problem in the mission possibly causing you to fail the mission and lose the lives of yourself or your sodiers for not having proper equipment. Not only is accountability of equipment highly important but making sure all the equipment works how it is designed and intended to be used.
Being in the military is not a very easy career. There are many things that we do in the military that many people will never understand, but they need to be done in order to protect the many freedoms that we enjoy in this country. Because of this, it is very difficult to earn an education in the military, but with a little commitment and a lot of encouragement, it can be done. “President Obama has charged every US citizen and military service member with the responsibility to create that better nation, through individual education.” (Miller, 2009). It can be very hard sometimes to take classes because of the military.
