The film Blood Diamond is about an illegal diamond trading business in Africa. This trading business results in the death of thousands and leads to the break out of a war between people of the same country to gain control of these diamonds, everyone is in search of the ultimate diamond, the pink diamond. Kids are captured and turned into children soldiers to kill everyone. The title refers to blood diamonds, which are diamonds mined in war zones and are sold to finance the conflicts. These diamonds are sold to buyers in big cities around the world mainly London. Civil war has broken out over these diamonds and has caused much destruction and the diamonds have earned the name conflict diamonds.

The idea behind the conflict diamond exchange in extremely real and many people have died from it. The De Beers Group, which is the largest player in the diamond trade, they have said the trade in conflict diamonds has been reduced from 4% to 1% by the Kimberley Process. Also as of now there are still nearly 200,000 children soldiers working in Sierra Leone alone. Now since the civil war has ended, diamonds have still played a major role as a legitimate business for cities in Africa. In early 2001 president Clinton banned the importation of rough diamonds from Sierra Leone because it was funding a brutal war. Later in 2001 president Bush banned the importation of rough diamonds from Liberia who has been known to be working with Sierra Leona in a pipeline business for conflict diamonds (this was all mentioned in the movie).
