Child Abuse
It is hard to forget about certain events that take place which impact your life forever. One night a friend might ask you to spend the night at her house, and you are very excited. You begin packing your things while thinking about all of the fun activities you are going to do together like staying up till dawn, watching sappy movies, eating junk food, and talking about boys. You are going to have a blast, no questions asked! Why wouldn't you? You are not staying at a stranger's house. This is your best friend! The one who you spend time with as well as confide in. She is the one whom you find yourself enjoying being around even if the only thing you are doing is sitting on the couch watching television. Since you spend so much time with this best friend, you are both extremely comfortable with one another. You both know a deep bond has developed between you which is difficult to break.
So, after the movies have been watched and the junk food has been eaten, it is time to go to bed. This is possibly the best part of a sleep-over. Whether it is the late hour or the junk food talking, this is the time when everything seems to come out in the open. The conversation begins as it normally does- talking about boys. Once it is decided that no girl in her right mind honestly needs them anyway, the conversation begins to lessen. Assuming that the time has finally come to cease the talking and try to get a few hours of sleep, you contently roll over. However, you are not surprised when your best friend asks, “Can I tell you something?”, and you groggily respond that she can. Expecting another story about a high school crush, you are absolutely shocked when your best friend replies, “I have been sexually abused- not just once, either.”
In pretty much any situation, a best friend would be appalled at this news. I know I was. My mind went through a whirlwind of emotions including those of rage at the person who would do this to my best...
