Bilbo was left alone to save the dwarves. He made a plan to get the spiders away from the nests and quickly went back to rescue the dwarves. The dwarves exclaim to Bilbo that because of his actions they stayed alive. Tolkien illustrates this when he states: “They knew only too well that they would soon all have been dead, if it had not been for the hobbit; and they thanked him many times”(166). Tolkien also shows heroism through external conflict when trolls capture the dwarves and Bilbo.

Pucks and Pig Skins There are many different sports which are played at a professional level for one to choose to watch and enjoy. Of the many sports out there the two that claim title to the manliest of sports without a doubt goes to football and hockey. Both sports are jam packed with high energy bone shattering hits. Whether it is a hockey defenseman slamming a center into the ice or a football linebacker sacking a quarterback in the back field, physicality is constant. Although the leagues attempt to ensure player safety with numerous safety equipment regulations, such as helmets, pads, and lengthy lists of illegal plays and moves, numerous players each season receive extreme injuries.
He quickly escapes but realizes that he must take another break to build yet another fire. The climax of the story occurs when he attempts to build a fire to dry up his wet and freezing body. His hands are so damaged by the cold that he cannot move his fingers and he struggles to light a match. After finally lighting the match and starting a small fire, snow that was suspended in the tree branches above is melted by the heat of the flame and the pile of snow falls down onto the fire. The fire is extinguished and the hiker is helpless.
Fitzgerald uses imagery to compare the components of hockey with other finely detailed images. In the first paragraph, the author describes the ice to appear tired and resigned. He goes on to compare it to a "Xmas store window, not before the miniture fir trees...were arranged upon it, but after they had been dismantled and cleared away" (6). Continuing on to the second paragraph, Fitzgerald envisions the game to be full of energy, motion, and speed. To the "innocent" this sudden change seemed "paradoxical like the frantic darting of the weightless bugs which run on the surface of stagnant pools" (14).
Katniss is assigned to a team, with Boggs as the leader, and it includes, Gale, Peeta, Finnick, Jackson, pollux (an Avox), Castor, his brother, leeg 1 and 2, Homes, the tv team consisting of Mesalla and Cressida, and mitchell. When they finally reach district one, Boggs legs are blown off by a bomb that eventually kills him, but not before he leaves Katniss in charge. Mitchell gets caught on a barb wire, but then a pod (kind of like a bomb, but there are different kinds), goes off, releasing a tarlike wave which kills
Some of these impacts include ice bridges melting, and will have to be replaced with traditional building materials. Ice bridge engineers will have to discard their ice chisels and saws in favour of wood chisels and saws. Thousands of snowmobile retail outlets will be forced to close, especially in the larger cities of Vancouver, Toronto, and Spuzzum. The Great Ice Cities of Iqaluit and Tuktuyuktuk will melt away like popsicles in a toaster oven. Outdoor hockey/curling leagues will be impossible to maintain.
The winter air is refreshing at first, but then I cannot stop shivering and I don’t want to move. It is so cold and my fingers hurt from frostbite. We are humiliated while at our lowest points. Our hope and dignity disappears behind the crack of a whip. The red marks are everlasting mementos of our masters’ cruelty.
He was sure that he would make it to the camp where the rest of the men were by six o’clock. Later in the story he becomes very persistent to build a fire to save his life. Even though it is so cold and when he removes his gloves to start the fire his fingers becomes so numb that he is unable to strike the matches to start a fire. He tries and tries to start the fire. At one point he begins to
