That I might touch that cheek!” (II, ii, 2-25) this was Romeo’s words when he started talking about how madly in love he is over Juliet. He can’t even bring himself to leave because he wants to be with her forever. He also can’t stop describing how beautiful Juliet is. Love is the most precious thing in life as some people say love makes the world go round. Love is the most important thing for some people, and for others it is everything.
The poem Anne Hathaway is a tribute to Shakespeare. It is written in the form of a sonnet – a traditional love poem. Duffy uses the character of Anne Hathaway to present a feeling of love. “The bed we loved in was a spinning world of forests, castles, torchlight, clifftops, seas where he would dive for pearls.” A deep feeling of love is conveyed metaphorically by comparing the couple’s bed to a romantic, fantasy world. All of the places mentioned are key settings for some of Shakespeare's most famous works, this shows how special Hathaway considers the couple's lovemaking.
The first poem from Fatal Interview talks about how much Millay is in love with this man. The first and second line of the poem she says “Women have loved before as I love now; At least, in lively chronicles of the past,” (530). She is comparing this relationship and the love she has for him to the old literature which contains the greatest loves. I believe that this is a great comparison. The classic novels talk about a love that is everlasting and true.
First of all, the nightingale can be considered sincerity between the lady and her beloved. Two lovers tryst with each other under the pretext of the nightingale’s singing. When the bird was killed, their relationship turned into a fond dream without happy ending. Secondly, middle class’s women often oppressed by their education, family and social expectation, lacking of independence and hope at that time. However, in this story the author created an active and strong female character contrast with the nightingale which I regard as an epitome of the women of that time.
Idealized Love “When we fall in love, we believe our partner is irreplaceable. We have found the one who is perfect, just right for us. The act of falling in love, in a sense, means that we reject the notion that individuals are interchangeable” (Gianotti). In F. Scott Fitzgerald’s novel, The Great Gatsby, idealized love strongly motivates the key characters Jay Gatsby and Daisy Buchanan. While their journey together begins as a brief fling, the two are soon engrossed in a lifelong relationship filled with undying affection and enduring regrets.
His young heart eagerly seeks love, but is so easily distracted and changed. At the beginning of the play, Romeo is deeply in love with Rosaline. Romeo describes to his friends of how lovesick he is, and of the beauty of Rosaline. Romeo describes Rosaline as the “all-seeing sun/ne’er saw her match since first the world begun” and is tormented by his unappreciated love for Rosaline. Benvolio then suggests Romeo to attend a Capulet gathering where Rosaline will be outmatched by other beautiful girls but Romeo says that his affection for Rosaline will not change.
In this quote Juliet is regretting the fact that she has fallen in love with an enemy, a Montague. The “Prodigious birth of love” shows that Juliet has rushed into ‘love’ with a man, of which she has just learned his name. True love comes with time, passion, and effort. Love at first sight is not so much a love of the person, but a love of the person’s looks. When Romeo sees Juliet on the balcony later that night, or possibly the next morning, he exclaims, “It is my lady.
The word “dove” suggests she is both beautiful and a figure of peace. Shakespeare represents strong feeling of love and how it is effectively presented through this quote. This is ironic because her family is the Montague’s enemy and conflict before peace arrives between the two families. The “crows” could represent the Capulet’s who are the Montague’s enemies, but can also represent the other females at the ball. It can be said that Romeo uses the word “crows” to contrast Juliet to the other females; it is evident that he finds her to be one of the beautiful beings.
This creates the impression that Romeo is saying that he couldn’t live without her. Moreover it creates emotional attachment towards the characters as we learn how they truly love each other. Another example of this is when Romeo says ‘The brightness of her cheeks would shame those stars’. In addition, it also conveys the theme of youth. Romeo falls in love with Juliet after seeing her for the first time.
One story is what we would call “Romance Literature” and the other one is more “Realism”, in one the characters names are given and the other they just go by “the husband” and “the wife.” The way both male characters express their feeling or love to their wives is completely different from each other, although they both do love them like crazy. The story by van der Zee is romance literature because of the intimate scenes and it has a happy ending, because Faye lives happily ever after with the love of her life “Kai”, after all they have been through. I believe the name Faye is a very pretty name and that has something to do why van der Zee used it in a romance story. Unlike A Secret Sorrow, in A Sorrowful Woman the characters names are not given and there are no scenes were “the husband” and “the wife” are intimate. In this story the wife seems to not be happy with her family and ends up dying at the end.
