Joe would find any work available to support himself, he would take care of the chickens and the garden to ensure he had enough food to survive or he would forage for food, whether it be other peoples food scraps, he never let anything go to waste “no matter how odd, or worthless it might at first appear.” His older brother asked him to move to Seattle to finish his senior year of high school and while there he was approached by the head coach at the University of Washington’s rowing team to try out for the team, as he had the body type, from chopping wood from a young age for work, that the coach was looking for. Joe worked for a year to save enough money to cover his tuition, and it was during this time he proposed to his girlfriend. There were a total of 175 boys who tried out for the rowing team, through gruelling and brutal physical tests, the group was whittled down to 80. Joe had a clear goal to get on the team as he needed it to ensure he had assistance from the University in gaining admission and a grant. He was a social outcast to his peers as he did not have the same upbringing, he didn’t have new clothes and was ridiculed for this, but never let it get him down, even

In the movie Rudy’s family is somewhat dysfunctional with his older brother being the antagonist who always made fun of dreams and tried to tell him it would never happen. His Dad did not support him and just expected his sons to follow in his footsteps and work at the power plant he ran. Rudy did not have an older brother named Frank in real life; the character is all the people telling him he couldn’t do it combined into one. Also in real life Rudy had two older sisters and was the oldest boy of 14 children. He had a well-structured and supportive family in real life.
As a freshman, he injured his knee and developed a leg infection which extended into his groin and which his doctor diagnosed as life threatening; the doctor insisted that the leg be amputated but Dwight refused to allow it, and miraculously recovered, though he had to repeat his freshman year. He and his brother Edgar both wanted to attend college, though they lacked the money. They made a pact to take alternate years at college while the other worked, in order to earn the tuitions. Edgar took the first turn at school, and Dwight was employed as a night supervisor at the Belle Springs Creamery. Edgar asked for a second year, Dwight consented and worked for a second year.
It was during that time he was given the nickname “Teddy” by his parents, and he hated it (Biography.com). Theodore was weak as a child, but did not let it stop him, in fact; it encouraged him to work on ways to strengthen his muscles to become stronger. Theodore and his family traveled to Europe and the Middle East when he was ten and again when he was fourteen (Biography.Com). When he overcame his illness, he enrolled in college at Harvard, and his father died during his second year. He did not allow the loss of his father to hinder his growth,

Cory work jeans, a shirt, and converse type sneakers and also his football uniform when going to practice. There were many funny moments in the play like when Troy’s oldest son, Lyons would always show up to his house on payday and ask his father for money. However there were really serious moments like when Rose found out that her husband had cheated on her and impregnated another woman after years of being married or when Cory and Troy scuffled after he saw his parents having a heated disagreement. “Fences” is appropriate for an audience of at least 13 and up. Singer writes “we ought to do things that, predictably, most of us won’t do” (375) For example, every other year my family and I vacation to Guadalajara, Jalisco to visit family for the holidays. One year my dad went to a palenque (which is like a brothel for roosters), and there was a group of kids asking for spare change for food. My dad took them aside and he said ,“I am not going to give you a dime because I won’t really know if you are going to use it for food like you say you are.” The kids start to talk amongst them selves as they walk away, and before they know it my dad had them all sit down, and he bought them all food. Every kid in that group got the opportunity to have a hot
