Taylor Professor George Garrison Black Experience I 11 November 2012 Broke-Ology The play Broke-ology is directed by Dr. Dorsey and gives viewers a story about the lives for two young boys and their father in Kansas City, Kansas. Malcolm is a bright and ambitious young man who has completed his degree in Environmental Biology. He completed this task at the University of Connecticut and came home to visit his father and get a job working in the summer at the EPA. His brother’s Ennis however, decided to take a different route in life. He never left Kansas City and during the play he had a child due in a few months. While working at a local barbeque restaurant, he also aided their father as he suffered from an illness called muscular sclerosis. The illness deteriorated his thought process and their father would have continuous events where he would envision their mother being with him but in reality she wasn’t and had passed away shortly after…show more content…
Childhood memories were illustrated in stories by the brothers. They even participated in snagging a Nome they hated as children together and acted like pirates to have a good time. Dominoes was a game that was played in their kitchen to pass the time. Overall, the two brothers had a good time together after not seeing each other for 5 years and the play ended without telling the audience if Malcolm made his decision to stay or leave. The play gave the impression that family is important and should be the most valued in any situation. In its relation to Black Experience, Broke-Ology is a good description of how some African American households deal with family dilemmas. It isn’t necessarily the way all black homes are situated but it is a good story that was well recited and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a good plot that deals with the African American
