Chicago, IL vs. Orlando, FL Two of my favorite cities are Chicago, IL and Orlando, FL. I was born and raised in Chicago, IL and in my adult life moved to Orlando, FL. Chicago is known as “The Windy City” and Orlando is known as “The City Beautiful”. They are both popular cities in their own states. Chicago is the 3rd largest metropolitan area in the United States and Orlando is the 26th largest metropolitan area in the United States. Despite their popularity; there are many similarities and differences based on their location, population, climate, sports entertainment and tourism. Chicago is located in the state of Illinois at the southernmost tip of Lake Michigan with a population of about 2.7 million. Orlando is located in the state of Florida in central Florida with a population of about 2.2 million. These two cities are opposite sides of the United States one in the north and one in the south; with that fact the most obliviously have different temperatures. The summer in Chicago can reach about 85 to 90 degrees, and Orlando can reach 90 to 100 degrees, but sometimes exceeds 110 degrees. Chicago has freezing winters with temperatures of 24 degrees and below. Orlando winters are much nicer with highs of about 72 degrees and lows of 50 degrees. Chicago has museums, Navy Pier, parks, zoos, and the beautiful magnificent mile. Orlando has Disney World, Universal, and Sea World. When tourists go to Chicago they know that this is a big city that they can walk around and see different things at many turns. In Orlando tourist have to travel by car or bus in order to get to the theme parks. Both cities generate generous tourist revenue; especially Orlando because who does not want to come somewhere tropical and see the beautiful castle at Disney World.
