Jo Edwards. 15/07/15 CU1530 – Promote communication in health social care or children’s and young people’s settings. 1.1 Identify the different reasons people communicate. People communicate to express their thoughts, opinions, needs, desires and emotions, to share and gain information, knowledge and feelings, to socialize and build relationships, to motivate and reassure others, to get help, give advice and to ask and answer questions. 1.2 Explain how communication affects relationships in the work setting. We use communication to build relationships in our workplaces with our peers, bosses and the people we support. If we communicate positively to one another then we will get positive results and work in a positive environment. This will help build good working relationships amongst staff and the people we support. Positive communication will help colleagues to trust each other and have the confidence to voice their opinions, ask for help, give advice and share information which will provide the people we support with a strong team that they can trust, negative communication will have the opposite effect. 2.2 Describe the factors to consider when promoting effective communication. The factors you should consider to promote effective communication skills are; Think before you speak, especially when talking to children or vulnerable adults, you need to be clear about what you’re saying to avoid any unnecessary confusion which may lead to upset. Tone, this is very important our tone of voice can convey all sorts of emotions, sadness, happiness, anger, excitement etc. So make sure that your tone of voice is fitting to the emotion you wish to convey. Body language, our body language like tone can show our emotions for instance if we are angry we would probably be stood up straight, shake our fists and pace around or if we are
