Meliek Whitsett Dr. V Forensic Science 4 November 2013 Serial Killer Project Most serial killers that we know of today often showed signs of becoming a psychopath as a young child. They would start fires, burn things, torture animals, and have fantasies of sexual control. This perfectly matches Dennis Raders childhood. Dennis Rader used to torture animals, by binding them and then hanging them. He also dreamed about sexual fantasies and stole woman’s panties and wore them. Dennis Rader, also called “BTK” which stands for (Bind, Torture, and Kill) was one of the most infamous serial killers in the United States. “He spent 4 years with the Air Force, and in a pattern of Dennis Rader's life, it was unremarkable. He "maintained", just as he had throughout school, only attaining the rank of Sergeant before retiring from the armed services. “On Jan. 15, 1974, Joseph Otero Jr., 38, his wife Julie, 34, and two children were found murdered in their home. Three other family members -- Charles, 15; Danny, 15; and Carmen, 13; were not home during the killing spree.”(Kari & Associates 2006). After this, Dennis Rader killed Kathryn Bright, hiding in her bedroom until she arrived home. “She was accompanied by her 19 year old brother Kevin. They were both taken by surprise when a man came out of the room with a gun.” It was a little bit of a struggle for Dennis Rader, but he eventually killed Kathryn Bright, and he left Kevin Bright with permanent damage. In October of the same year, the Wichita Eagle newspaper got a phone call. The man who took the phone call said he found a letter hidden in an engineering book at the Wichita Public Library. “There police found a detailed description of the unsolved Otero murders. It was noted that the writer of the note used very poor grammar and spelling, but had obvious knowledge of the crime. Dennis Rader stated "I did it myself with no one’s help", and "the code words for them will be . . .
