The course may also include creative nonfiction. Students will respond critically to readings of different historical and cultural contexts through class discussion and written work. These contexts may include different world views, politics, classes, ethnicity, races, genders, and sexual orientations. Completing this exercise successfully will be worth 4% of your grade. Except in rare cases of extreme emergency (determined at my discretion) absences on your poem presentation day cannot be made up. Attendance Policy and Pop Quizzes Attendance is a requirement to pass this course. You may miss three classes without penalty. If you miss more than three classes for any reason, you may be dropped from the class. In extenuating circumstances, you may be allowed to remain in the course with more than three absences. If you are, however, your final grade will be reduced by one third of a letter grade for each absence beyond three. ALSO PLEASE NOTE: If in my view you are inattentive, unprepared for class, sleeping and/or disruptive to other students’ learning, you will be asked to leave the class.
