Servant leadership is all about creating teamwork, community, and allowing for others to be involved in decision making, strong ethics, and caring behavior. These are important factors as well as encouraging personal growth among the staff (Spears, 2005). The leader and the servant are usually thought of as opposites however, the servant leader model has shown how the two opposites are intertwined to create a model that teaches about how to put others first and promote the sharing of decision making (Spears, 2005). This model focuses on the positive impact on the employees as well as the community, rather than worrying so much about profit (Spears, 2005). CompStat which is short for Computer Comparison Statistics, is used in the Law Enforcement field because “it is an innovative business management process, system, and strategic methodology that assists an organization in achieving its mission and goals.” (Godown, J., 2013.) The CompStat is important to the management principles of Law Enforcement because it is transferrable, compatable, and it is replicable. Law Enforcement agencies use this method as a crime control process which in turns create reoccurring meetings that happens on a regular bases and where an assessment is performed to look for areas that can use improvement. This method is so equipped and versitale that it can also analyze the numbers of crimes and their locations as well as the amount of arrests and suspects that have been apprehended. It also gives you a list of the victims that the crimes happened to, it provides the days and times in which the criminal activities occurred.
The reason is because of the potential for groups to create better quality outcomes that workers working individually. As the use of group of work has increased in firms, considerable investigations has focused on the role of leadership and governance in fostering group performance. The general literature about leadership, governance and its the development has resulted broad and fragmented. The principal aim of this research was to present a concise view of the factor that involve governance and leadership using a systematic literature review approach. This research will try to explain the relevance of the leader’s role in the effective governance organisations and how depending the role-played can alter the organizational outcomes.
Participative Leadership Theories Introduction It has long since the study of leadership has been a focus in management, psychology and organizational behavior with “over 35,000 research papers, articles and books written” on the topic in order to define leadership and understand which style is more conducive to effective leadership (Killian, 2007). Many academic and empirical researches cover wide range of information about leadership theory and characteristics that make a leader effective. It's difficult to predict who may turn out to be a successful leader and who might not, which is where participative leadership theories come from. The focus of this work is to identify information on participative perspectives of leadership. Participative leadership, also known as democratic leadership, is a style of leadership that consists of inviting subordinates to share thoughts and ideas in the decision making in order to gain organizational goals and objectives.
If the goal is reasonably defined and the focus is sharp and continually reinforced, it is easier to unify through a sense of common purpose. In Four Seasons, Sharp knows that in order to meet their main company objectives, they must lower costs and increase service and product quality. Sharp’s method of leading the business provides an evident that a leader must be responsible in the hospitality industry and that responsibility is the most essential quality of leadership. He is sure that when the personnel see that their leader takes responsibility because of his movements and roles, they are more likely to follow this ideal. As a result this will positively affect the workforce because the industry is one with high turnover rates.
Below are all the different types’ leadership styles used in the public services and comparing all there advantages and disadvantages. Authoritarian Authoritarian leadership is a very direct leadership style where the team members MUST do what the team leader has said, if the work is not completed efficiently enough there will be consequences. This approach is not generally considered to be the most appropriate way to get the best response from a team in ordinary working life, but in the armed forces where urgency and pressure is needed to succeed, it is a necessary leadership style. Leadership Theory and Practice There are several theoretical approaches to what creates an effective leader. Four main approaches are identified for this report; they are the Trait Approach, the Skills Approach, The Style Approach, and the Situational Approach. For over a century researchers have been trying to define what makes an effective or good leader, there are several theories with the most common question appearing to be are good or effective leaders born or bred. Our book, Leadership Theory and Practice, treats leadership as a complex process having multiple dimensions. (Northouse, 2013).
The leadership styles used in this study included command and control leadership, relations-oriented leadership, hands-on leadership, coaching leadership, and democratic leadership. The analysis of the study revealed that ‘the softer management styles were preferred overall to both manage with and to be managed with’. With his type of leadership the leader shows concern for his employee’s workers and he gets back the complete trust and loyalty of his staff. (Erben and Guneser, Gul and Ayse). This would have been the preferred leadership style in this case for this particular problem highlighted and he was initially too focused as a formal leader. Sensemaking and Resilience Questioning “Common sense is not so common.” (Voltaire) So what is sensemaking and common sense exactly? “ Sensemaking is what it says it is , namely , making something sensible ( Weick 1995) and that it is it is not only applied to using the information “meaningful lived experience” but also applying making decisions to be made for the future not only relying on experience.
A man was thought of as more able to lead than a female, as a result of their brawn. A person was guaranteed their status in society based on their linage. This meant that the leaders would have been quite knowledgeable about the role that they have to play to ensure the success of society and would have been well equipped with leadership skills from an early age. The hereditary rule meant too that order was preserved in both societies as leadership was never challenged this eliminated the inevitable chaos that would have proceeded such challenges. A non chaotic and unchallenged election as it relates to leadership positions, would have informed the stability of the societies.
