The core concept of nursing is the diversity in healthcare settings dealt with the disparity between theorist of Florence Nothingale and Jean Watson. Florence Nothingale environment theory and metaparadigms will help establish the criteria which identify where and when nurse apply the core concept of nursing practice on a daily basis. Jean Watson theory is the philosophy and science of caring which is interrelated theories of Florence nightingale concepts. To understand these theory we have to understand the core concept of knowledge that will establish the path of explanations and give the meaning of a phenomena of nursing practice. These nursing practices must base on nursing theories we are using in the clinical setting of practice.
Being there made me scared but encountering the nice nursing staff and doctors made me feel more secure. I would always ask questions like do you love you job and what made you become a nurse. Getting those answers and having those experiences made me feel more competent about the career choice that I was playing on pursuing. As I got older I began to do research on the field and I learn that it was not only a rewarding career but it was an auspicious one also. Nursing is one of the few careers
I am going to explore this more closely and relate it to a theory to show why caring is an important part of a nursing process. The nursing model I have selected to essentially use is Swanson’s theory and her five categories of caring which are Knowing, Being with, Doing for, Enabling and Maintaining belief (Swanson 1991). For the purpose of this essay I will concentrate on ‘Being with’, ‘Doing for’ and ‘Maintaining’ belief. Within this essay no identifiable information has been used in order to protect patient confidentiality, in keeping with the Nursing and Midwifery Council’s (NMC) Code (2008). Caring can be perceived as a relationship in which a nurse is dedicated to the needs of the cared for, but also as a moral obligation and a legal duty (Morse et al 1990).
Discuss question from NUR/403 THEORIES AND MODELS OF NURSING PRACTICE UOP Discuss a specific theory used in your practice setting. How does using this theory affect care? (if there is not a specific theory, what theory do you think would fit?) I chose Travelbee theory because it is what deep in my core and how I strive to practice as a nurse. "Travelbee believed nursing is accomplished through human-to-human relationships that begin with the original encounter and then progress through stages of emerging identities, developing feelings of empathy, and later feelings of sympathy.
The Role of Ethics in Adult Intensive Care Nursing Introduction According to the International Council for Nurses (ICN, 2012), nurses have four basic responsibilities: to promote health, to prevent sickness, to restore health and to alleviate suffering. In addition, the ICN Code of Ethics states that a respect for human rights is an essential part of the profession, including cultural rights, the right to life and choice, to dignity and to be treated with respect. While these responsibilities and guiding principles outline the scope of nurses’ work, they may at times conflict with each other or with the prevailing social norms. Nurses are confronted with ethical dilemmas in many areas of practice. These dilemmas can be of great or minor magnitude, with a varying degree of moral, legal and ethical consequences.
I would love to have the opportunity to graduate from nursing, because I have a strong desire to help people and make a difference in the quality of their lives every day. What is also noteworthy about nursing is that there is no another job as rewarding as being a nurse. Each day I will have an impact on patients´ lives, and have the opportunity to save someone´s life. I think there is no reward greater than that. Searching in different schools, I found that this program has a bunch of resources not only solid basics of nursing theory , but also nursing practice as well as clinical experience that will give me the opportunity of been successful in different practice situations.
According to “Code of Ethics” (2007), the second provision states, “The nurse’s primary commitment is to the patient, whether an individual, family, group, or community” (ANA, 2001, p. 18). Therefore, as nurses we are obligated to tell the court what we had observed, when we had observed it and to whom we reported the incident to. References Chmielewski, C., (2004). According to Judson and Harrison (2010), two reasons to study law and ethics is to help health care professionals function in the highest capacity, while providing competent, compassionate care to patients, and to prevent legal issues that can end your profession (p. 3). Judson and Harrison define law, ” as a rule of conduct or action prescribed or formally recognized as binding or enforced by a controlling authority” (Judson & Harrison, 2010, p. 7). Ethics is essentially standardized behaviors based around what is right or wrong that surpasses what may be considered legal in certain situations. It is crucial as nurses a balance is developed that benefits the patient, but protects the nurse, as well. It is important as professionals we follow the professional code of ethics and stay within the boundaries of the law.
Nursing is an outstanding career that is both challenging and rewarding. I believe the infinite reward that one can gain can be successfully satisfied in the field of nursing through the support, and care for others, as well as self fullfillment.Though nursing is not for everyone, I believe I have the qualities that are vital for individuals to work in a dynamic environment. It is not only essential to describe why I have chosen to pursue this field, but how I'm going to accomplish advancing my career. I am currently a licensed practical nurse at the Syracuse veterans hospital, and have practiced for six consecutive years serving our nation's veterans. It is a gratifiying yet humbling experience.
“In today’s dynamic and complex health care environments, safe and effective care will only be assured when health care leaders make optimal contribution to the effort” (AACN, 2006). All nurses need to take considered look at their future about the care that they have delivered to the patients. Personal and professional accountability There are only a few jobs which are rewarding jobs, I consider nursing a rewarding job. Every day in my life I have a constant influence on the survival of patients which have included having the chance of saving many lives of patients and I think that this is a big award for me. I always receive good feedback from the families for my best nursing care that the patient receive during hospitalization.
