Epidemic Outbreak of “The Herpes Virus” (Assignment #1) Herpes is an infection caused by the etiologic agents Herpes Simplex Virus-1 and HSV-2. HSV-1 is the type generally known for causing oral herpes outbreaks, also known as cold sores or fever blisters. These blisters last from a week to a month, becoming open sores that crust over with scabs. The outbreak following the initial infection (usually a few days to a few weeks afterward) is usually the worst—the ones after that are less painful. Some people actually confuse their mild outbreaks with other skin conditions such as “eczema”.
Klebsiella is mostly spread through person to person contact with contaminated hands. In the hospital transmission could be through a catheter or ventilator. Klebsiella can be treated with antibiotics, however research has shown that this bacterium is developing a resistance to the antibiotic carbapenems, which is usually an antibiotic of last resort. This is of great concern to physicians and researchers because currently there are no new antibiotics in development to combat bacteria that are resistant to carbapenems. Careful attention to infection control procedures can help reduce the risk of transmission of Klebsiella.
This pain may become worse within minutes after eating or drinking, especially high fat foods. It may become constant and more severe, lasting for several days and may worsen when lying flat. The client with acute pancreatitis may appear ill with fever, nausea, vomiting, and sweating. Treatment often requires a stay in the hospital and may involve pain medication, IV Fluids, maintaining NPO status, to limit the activity of the pancreas and on occasion an NG tube to remove stomach contents. In some cases gallstones may be removed to relieve blockage of the pancreatic duct.
Women who have frequent urinary tract infections, have poor vaginal muscle tone, and/or infection may not be suited for the shield. Although rare, there are some side effects associated with the use of the shield. Using the shield may increase the risk for Urinary Tract Infection, Vaginal Infection, and Toxic shock syndrome. Toxic shock syndrome, TSS, is a serious health problem that can occur from bacteria that grows on the shield if it is kept in place for more that twenty-four hours. Warning signs of TSS include sudden fever, vomiting, diarrhea, dizziness, sore throat, aching muscles, and rash.

It can be caused by bacteria and other organisms that are usually different from CAP. HAP is usually more serious than CAP because the bacteria and organisms can be harder to treat, and because people who get HAP are already sick. Aspiration pneumonia occurs when liquids or other irritants are inhaled into the lungs. The most common type of aspiration pneumonia is caused by inhaling stomach contents after vomiting. People with medical problems (e.g., stroke, ALS) that affect swallowing are at an increased risk of this type of pneumonia.
