It does not make sense. Not that long ago, the alcohol age was lower then 21. It was different from state-to-state, which caused teenagers to drink over state lines to have a legal drink. With the drinking age at 21, teens are hiding their illegal drinking from their parents. This put them in a drastically less safe environment then at home.
Jeannette Alverio Journal 5 April 24, 2012 Chapter 8 Summary: Chapter 8 is about personal crimes. The chapter begins to discuss assault and battery. Assault is defined as the attempted or threatened battery. It is the intentional fear that is put into someone by the threat of bodily harm. Batter is the unlawful physical violence on another person without their consent.
It is also a long and complicated process to take someone to court for breaking a copyright law; many cases would and have been brushed off. Canada has the highest illegal downloading rate according to population in the world; the government does not and will not be able to hold all the people who do this accountable for
The legitimacy of the law and the obligation to obey the law are derived directly from the right of every citizen to vote. Denying prisoners the right to vote is to lose an important tool of teaching them democratic values and social responsibility. In fact, the denial of voting rights on the basis of attributing moral indignity is inconsistent with respect for the dignity of each person. Furthermore, denying the right to vote does not meet the requirements of a legitimate punishment, and deprivation of this right does not dissuade criminals from committing a crime or rehabilitates them
Those illegally distributing alcohol could not use the legal system to resolve differences, so they had to resort to violence. In turn, forcing the police department to increase forces to enforce the prohibition law, and less for the other crimes . (http://eh.net/encyclopedia/article/miron.prohibition.alcohol) Prohibition banned only the manufacturing, sale and transport, but not consumption or possession of alcohol, so many people bought liquor before the 18th Amendment was passed. (www.1920-30.com/prohibition/) Criminal organizations mostly profited by the prohibition which in turn promoted other illegal activities.
Instead, it will only take a toll on the innocent Americans who will not be able to protect themselves in case of an attack. It will also be a violation of people’s right and in addition, the citizens will lose their trust towards their elected leaders. The law enforcers should treat people with respect and fulfil their duty to protect and serve instead of using their power to terrorise them because without these people, they would not be enjoying those privileges. Liberalism is slowly going to change the country, and soon people will be under the rule of a few privileged individuals. Taking away people’s right to own firearms, as Dwyer notes, is a calculated move aimed at leaving the people with no free will.
The unjust prejudice and discrimination of racial groups, such as the indigenous and the Asian, clearly indicates racist views and beliefs held by the Australian society. This exploitation and destruction of the British throughout time greatly supports the statement that the “peopling” of Australia has been dominated by racism. Furthermore, the federal policies set to allow the restriction of non – white immigrants to Australia indicates the maintenance of a single culture, highlighting the racism within the immigration system. The views of racial discrimination established upon arrival to the Australia continued as a recurring theme through the process of populating Australia. Although, the introduction of anti–racism laws in recent years and the current multicultural attitude of today, the presence of racism within society is still clear.
18 year olds obviously also want alcohol, because they gain every other right in society. But the government has decided to limit the people’s freedom and decided that people under 20 are not responsible enough to drink. And what 19 year old wants to sit and watch a 20 year old or their parents and probably the whole government drink alcohol while they can not drink because the 19 year old is “not
6. Malice Aforethought The requisite mental state for common-law murder, encompassing any one of the following: (1) the intent to kill, (2) the intent to inflict grievous bodily harm, (3) extremely reckless indifference to the value of human life (the so-called abandoned and malignant heart), or (4) the intent to commit a dangerous felony (which leads to culpability under the felony-murder rule). 7. Larceny The unlawful taking and carrying away of someone else’s personal property with the intent to deprive the processor of it permanently. Common-law larceny has been broadened by some statutes to include embezzlement and false pretenses, all three of which are often subsumed under the statutory crime of “theft”.
The National Committee on Violence (1989) defines racist violence as “a specific act of violence, intimidation or harassment carried out against an individual, group or organisation on the basis of race, colour, descent or national or ethnic origin.” (p.2) Racial violence can take many forms, including harm to people or harm to property. What sets racial violence apart from other types of violence is the motivation behind the behaviour (p. 1). In Australia, there is a long history of racial violence which continues into the present day, and this issue gives no indication of resolving itself in the near future (Winterdyk & Antonopoulos, 2008). Many of these acts are crimes under State or Federal laws, but this wasn’t always so. From the arrival of the First Fleet in 1788, the indigenous Australians have been excluded from society and violently persecuted because of their race (Stillwell & Argyrous, 2003).
