Introduction to personal development in Health, social care or childrens and young peoples settings On commencing employment, I received a job description that sets out the main functions of my role and what I will be doing. I also received a person specification which was attached to my job description and sets out the knowledge and skills required to do the job. Codes of practice are a valid list of statements describing the standards of professional conduct and practice required of every worker as they go about their daily work. My employer also has to abide by the Codes of Practice. My employer must give clear information about my role to ensure I understand and can carry out my work to a high quality and standard. There are many other regulations and standards that you must follow in your job role. it is important that I know which are relevant to my role and their general meaning so I can work within the law and requirements of my employer. The National Occupational Standards describe best practice by bringing together skills, knowledge and values. National Occupational Standards are valuable tools to be used as benchmarks for qualifications as well as for defining roles at work, staff recruitment, supervision and appraisal. Health and Social Care Act 2008 was established by the Care Quality Commission (CQC). CQC is the independent regulator of health and social care in England. They regulate care provided by the NHS, local authorities, private companies and voluntary organisations. They aim to make sure better care is provided for everyone - in hospitals, care homes and people's own homes. The Equality Act - October 2010. It replaces previous legislation (such as the Race Relations Act 1976 and the Disability Discrimination Act 1995) and ensures consistency in what I need to do to make my workplace a fair environment and to comply
