If they were paid it would further that perception that they were something other than simply a student athlete. If they were to be paid, many of the athletes would simply waste that money on their wants, and not save it for their necessities. If the athletes have issues with money, as many college students do, it is not the university’s responsibility. Even those students on academic scholarships are not given money for “extras”. The school is already paying in most cases, for the primary things that are needed by the student athlete such as: food, tuition, and room and board.
Should College athletes be paid to play their sport? College athletes should be paid to play their sport. The NCAA is a multi-billion dollar industry that regulates players to the point of unfair treatment. As a student athlete, especially at the college level but more specifically D1 schools there are certain rules and regulation that players must abide to when it comes to money. Players are not allowed to accept gifts, clothing, tickets of entertainment, merchandise, special discounts, etc.
To Pay or Not to Pay To exploit means to make full use of and/or derive benefit from something or someone. In the case of student athletes, exploitation has become a major argument. In discussions of athletes and money, a controversial issue is whether or not student athletes should be paid. Many argue that being a college athlete is like having a full-time job, with players either at practice majority of the day, or in class the rest. In this case, they question why not give them some sort of payment to help aide the harsh student expenses they are forced to pay?
As the NCAA puts it, “Student athletes must, therefore, be students first.” If a student athlete is supposed to be a student first, adding money to the equation will not enhance their education. The purpose of attending college is to educate one’s self, and find a career that is worth pursuing. The money will come later; just like for students who are not athletes. College is a time where one works hard in hope of reaping the benefits in the future; not
Speech Outline Purpose Statement: The purpose of this speech is to show the audience why college athletes should be paid. Thesis Statement: College athletes deserve to be paid for a variety of reasons including: Introduction: As an athlete it is obvious that the harder you work the more success you have and every athlete’s dream is to play professionally. With the expense of college continuing to rise, most people cannot afford to pursue something they will not make money and benefit from later on. Horsey’s cartoon makes an important statement, one that college students especially should pay attention
This attitude undermines our best interests.” After we graduate from university, a lot of people want to find a stable job and then fight for it. Year by year, they lost their passion to play football or join some clubs instead they have to earn money for their family and children. The “A”students put their all time to study, then get a great certificate from top university. But they don't know how to choose a suitable work and what kind of life they want. They didn't spend time to socialize to make friends nor extended interest, this is a big problem to their future life.
Many people every day wonder the question, “Are pro athletes over-paid?” The answer to that question is simply, yes. The salaries of the professional athletes playing the game today are out of control. The effects that is has on the game is not nearly as bad as the effects that it deals on the players. Once upon a time athletes were not paid amounts of money nearly this large for their physical abilities. Instead they worked more than one job, lived a completely normal life, and simply played the sport they played for a hobby.
It is sad seeing college sports overshadowing college academics and achievements. With so much money flowing in from sport venues, it is only fair that the athletic programs get their share of funding. Exactly how much should the athletic program get would be a fair question? Is it fair that students coming in to school every day must look at other student athletes and coaches, knowing that their tuition fees helps pays for their equipments and necessities? This being the case, colleges put too much emphasis on their sports programs, some even go as low as curving rules and standards to better suit their athletes.
College tuition is very high and for most student athletes the money is hard to come by in these economic times of struggle. These kids want to be bigger, faster and stronger
