Assignment 4 Time Management February 27, 2011 Professor Daniel Gilbert Operations Management BUS515 003016 Introduction: After reading the case on work force scheduling at the Red, White, and Blue Fireworks Company (RWBFC), I will develop a staffing plan that will determine the exact number of full-time employees needed, as well as the schedule each employee will need to work. I will also explain what factors were relevant in making the transition to the new schedule. The production manager at the Red, White, and Blue Fireworks Company (RWBFC), decided to change the work schedule for her manufacturing employees. Because of high product demand and an inability to expand at the current facility, RWBFC needs to operate ten hours each day, seven days each week. In order to avoid the use of overtime and to keep her employees fresh, Joan decided to have employees work four ten hour shifts each week.

If your organization does not use self-directed teams, discuss what benefit(s) it could gain by doing so. The biggest self-directed team that jcpenney uses is the winnovation core team which is comprised of individuals from every department within the facility. This team meets weekly and discusses all new ideas submitted for possible improvements to the facility whether it is through process, costs, or layout.
During my final year of college I had an opportunity to organize a national level event which aimed at developing young entrepreneurs and creative thinkers. The event organizing committee was split into multiple teams based on functionality. I was put in charge of a couple of teams. We worked day and night to accomplish our tasks. What we didn’t happen to realize then is that every person in a team is different and everyone has his own strength and limitation.

Having proper business etiquette is great asset to acquire and can help any business professional to further their career. Introducing yourself to the new addition in your company should reflect your company’s values and standards, as well as your own. A few key points to follow when introducing a new associate or co-workers and following some simple business etiquette standards will help create a less hostile and productive work environment.
