Review of the Literature Sarah Mashen GCU Review of the Literature Introduction A fundamental principal of economic science, identifying a cost-effective way to produce a specified outcome, is a necessary foundation for any health-care system (Bauer, 2010). The health reform battles of 2009 revealed intense differences within political institutions and between key stakeholders. Many efforts to solve the problem focused on applying proven principles of evidenced-based practice and cost-effectiveness to find the least-expensive way to produce a specific clinical service of acceptable quality (Bauer, 2010). 2) Examples from clinical practice are utilized in order to demonstrate that assessing the outcomes of APN practice can be incorporated into daily practice as part of ongoing initiatives and the value of APNs can be formally acknowledged. 3/4) APNs in the clinical setting play an important role in managing patient care in a variety of ways including direct patient care, education, research, and administration. Incorporating NP case management of cardiovascular disease risk factors into clinical care settings is an efficacious and cost-effective strategy to help patients achieve their cholesterol goals and improve outcomes. Participant observation and interviews of five ward-based ANPs working in a large teaching hospital in the North West and were complemented by formal and informal interviews with staff and patients. 3) The predominant concept that ran through the data analysis was that of APNs as a cornerstone, using their expertise, networks, and knowledge of healthcare not only to facilitate patient care but to develop a pivotal role facilitating nursing and medical practice.
