COUNTER-TERRORISM SPECIAL FORCES There are many counter terrorism special forces in most countries today since Terrorism activities are becoming very rampant in most countries today. Some of the best counter-terrorism Special Forces in the world today includes: 1. The Delta Force 2. Shayetet 13 3. Special Air Service (SAS) The Delta force is the primary, full-time counter-terrorism unit of the U.S which was formed after many terrorist incidents in the 1970s. It is a U.S army component of the joint special operation command (L, 2002). Shayetet-13 (Flotilla-13) is the elite naval commando unit of the Israeli Navy of Israel. Shayetet-13 was formed in 1948 although its existence was made public in 1960. It is one of the primary Special Forces units of the Israel Defense Forces. Comparing two of the three Special Forces mentioned above on how they operate, we find out that there are similarities and differences that crop up. For instance Information about the delta force is highly classified and closely controlled by the Pentagon (Naylor, November 2006).Delta operators are accorded much freedom to act or function independently. They usually are in civilian clothing both on and off duty. They seldom wear military uniforms and when they do branch names, surnames or markings are lacking. Facial hair and even civilian hair styles are allowed so that members are able to blend in and avoid identification as military personnel (L, 2002). This is also depicted in Shayetet 13 since it is considered one of the most secretive units in the Israeli military. The information on activities and identities of officers are highly classified (E, 2007). For both the selection course like other military selection begins with the standard tests.
