May 24, 2010 Different Cultures There are 195 countries in this world, and is impossible to actually know the number of cultures because, even in our own home there is a little of culture and beliefs. Culture are a set of ideas in a society that has its own beliefs, and ways of behaving. Two different cultures that have different aspects of life like beliefs, family life and language are Hispanics and Muslims. One major difference of these cultures is the religion. Muslims believe that there is only one God, called Allah. The Muslim scripture is the Holy Qur'an. Muslims believe it is 'the word of God'. Muslim beliefs and practices are rooted in the Qur'an. Muslims treat the Qur'an with great respect because they believe that the Qur'an is from Allah, and every word and every letter is sacred. It is usually placed on a special wooden stand to be read. There is been controversy about Hispanic people converting into Muslims. Right now, in the United States about 100,000 Hispanics or Latinos are abandoning the faith every year and convert into the Islam faith. Family lives in these two cultures are similar and different in some way. Even though nobody is the same, Hispanic and Muslim families’ number one priority is family. Hispanic families are very attached to each other. Also, there is a respect that is demanded from children towards their elders. Marriage forms the sole basis for sexual relations and parenthood. However, a different aspect is the disvalue in women society. The rights of women in Muslim culture, continue to generate much media attention in the West. Muslim women are often portrayed as inferior beings, desperately in need of liberation from the Muslim patriarchal culture that prevents their progress. As many cultures language is unique. Hispanics speak Spanish, however many countries have their own unique words and expressions. Muslims speak Arabic and a mix of other words from many languages, including Hebrew, Persian and Syriac, Turkish and European languages. These two cultures are very similar in religion about being faithful with their God and different with language and family life-Hispanics have an equal representation with men and women, however, women are treated inferior to men.
