Lennie is often depicted as animalistic in this book as well. He is said when he is fighting Curley that he holds Curleys fists with his “paws” and described as a sheep. Steinbeck adds this to show that maybe Lennie's disability makes him act more like a animal than a human. Lennie's Description is one of the basis's for this stories
He’s more contending with comfort remembering this makes lennies death more palatable. Lennie likes to pet soft things which leads to death of the mouse, puppy and curly’s wife, Thus lennie’s happiness tends to end in some form of suffering like lennies mouse suffered because it was small and vulnerable , lennies mental is undoing. George’s Card Game this is a world where a chance plays a major role. For instance, slim happened to be in the barn when curly comes into the bunkhouse looking for his wife. Location, the Bunkhouse is the cruel world of reality is not a good place this is also a world of fate.
Words such as “golden” and “fresh” help create this setting. Steinbeck also uses pathetic fallacy to create a positive and harmonious mood. When describing the main characters as they enter the scene, Steinbeck uses animal imagery such as “Lennie snorted the water like a horse” and “Lennie dabbed his big paw.” This shows how large Lennie is. Lennie and George are complete opposites of each other which is shown through contrast and juxtaposition. George’s dominance is also shown through a simile, “Like a terrier who doesn’t want to bring a ball back to his master” where George is the master and Lennie is the terrier.
Tired of constantly reminding Lennie of things he should remember, George gets quickly angry when Lennie forgets to get the firewood, for example, and instead goes after the dead mouse. On the other hand, George's anger is quickly under control, and he blames himself for scolding Lennie. In fact, Steinbeck makes clear that, despite his complaining and frustration, George looks out for Lennie and genuinely cares for him. Without companionship we have nothing, relationships with other people can define who a person is. Whether that relationship is with a dog, as in Candy’s case or with a wife like Curly.
Okay, these are exactly the same as “how far” questions. You need to say that we do feel sorry for Lennie, but also we don’t. Here is what I would do:- Paragraph one – He doesn’t understand, he is completely naïve and dependent * “I di’n’t mean no harm, George” * “let ‘im have what, George?” * “It’s mean here” * “I can just as well go away” Paragraph two – He loses everything, his dream, the mice and the pup * “He pulled the trigger” * “he ain’t gonna let me tend the rabbits” * “you’ve broke it pettin’ it” * “An’ then he was dead” Paragraph three – He is consistently picked on by other men, including
The explanation in paragraph 2 is more effective because… Discuss with your partner: Analyse the following quotes, explaining what they show about Lennie’s character. You do not have to use the whole quote – you should select the language you think is necessary. Slowly, like a terrier who doesn’t want to bring a ball to its master, Lennie approached, drew back, approached again. George snapped his fingers sharply, and at the sound Lennie laid the mouse in his hand. “I’d pet ‘em, and pretty soon they bit my fingers and I pinched their heads a little and then they was dead – because they was so little” They sat by the fire and filled their mouths with beans and chewed mightily.
The mice are what Lennie remembers his Aunt Clara by, and that’s the only thing he has to remember her by are those mice. The mice also show that Lennie hurts things he loves, not intentionally, but that’s what he does. Since he likes to pet soft things, it leads him to kill his mice, his puppy, and Curley’s wife. Like Lennie, mice suffer because they’re small; mice’s physical smallness leaves it in danger, just like Lennie’s mental smallness does the same. Lennie’s puppy represents the victory of the strong over the weak.
Typically, both female bears have two or more cubs. The maximum life span for each bear is 20-30 years in the wild. Brown bears are widely known for their huge shoulder hump and shaggy fur coat, however, the black bear is known for his larger ears, pale muzzle and rounded back. They both can run 30-40 miles per hour. The black bear can climb trees while he is retreating, by contrast, the brown bear has to stand his ground because his claws are too small and improperly shaped, so they must respond to danger by warding off any would be attackers.
George may do things to Lennie which Lennie finds "mean", like alaways taking away dead mice from him, but unlike Lennie, the reader can understand why he does this. If the mouse's body was infected, then it would do damage to Lennie as the mouse "ain't fresh". This clearly shows that George cares about Lennie. George also cares about Lennie physically and can't stand to see him hurt, as he tell Lennie to "get him [Curley]" when Curley is attacking him, and also immediatly defends Lennie when Curley verbally attacks him - "Lennie didn't do nothing to him". All of this shows that George is a caring person who is loyal to Lennie and can't stand to see him bullied or hurt.
Mice and men “How does John Steinbeck portray Lennie in the novel of and men?” In the first chapter Steinbeck portrays Lennie Small straight away he presents him as a type of animal Steinbeck starts to use physical features this is where he uses metaphors to describe Lennie as having big paws the phase he uses ‘Lennie dabbed his big paws in the water and wiggled’ this portrays Lennie slightly to towards the reader that he’s a big size of nature. The word which Steinbeck uses ‘big paws’ this illustrates that he has an animal type appearance with the word ‘paw’ describing his hands. The way the author uses the phases in the first chapter is using animal metaphorical language to build a picture that he’s a huge type of animal. The author uses another portrayal in the situation when Lennie is drinking out of the lake the author describes him again as an animal ‘drinks beer like a horse out of a lake’ this builds up
