For Colored Girls For Colored Girls is a Dram film modified from Ntozoke Shanges from the 1970’s stage play For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow Is Enough. The movie was directed and written by Tyler Perry in 2010. For Colored Girls was Tyler’s first rated R film and took in $20.1 million dollars during his first opining weekend. The film feathered Janet Jackson, Phylicia Rashad, Whoopi Golderg, Thandie Newton, Lorette Devine, Anika Noni Rose, Kimberly and Kerry Washington. The move is based on the lives of 9 woman and their struggles through life as colored woman. Loretta Devine, plays as Juanita Sims in the film For Colored Girls. Loretta is an 62 year old film and television Actress born in Huston, Texas. Loretta grew up in the Acres Home area of Houston and attended George Washington’s Carver high school. Loretta graduated from University of Houston in 1971 with a bachelor of arts in speech, Drama, and MFA in Theater. She also is a member of the Epsilon lambda chapter of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority. In addition Loretta is a five time NAACP award winner she played in major films such as Dream Girls (a Broadway musical based on the history of The Supremes) Waiting to Exhale, this Christmas, and the Preacher’s wife. Lorettas played a small part in the mini soap opera For Color Girls as a woman by the name of Juanita. Juanita ran a nonprofit woman’s club for the females in her community. In the woman’s club they discussed various topics such as relationships, sex, and health. In the film Juanita dated this man who was going back in forth between her and another woman. What I liked most about Juanita’s roll in the film was in the beginning of the film she allowed this man to play with her emotions and go back and forth between her and this other woman as he pleases.
