Nevada Childhood Cancer Foundation This summer, entering my senior year, I was able to spend it as an intern at one of the greatest cancer organizations in the nation, the Nevada Childhood Cancer Foundation. It was an opportunity given by my magnet coordinator, in order to keep us busy and learn what political leadership is really about. As an intern, at this outstanding organization, I captured so many memories that I will treasure for the rest of life but I also learned many things that have changed my life for the better. To start off, I believe that all of my years as a student in the magnet program have been preparing me for this, my internship because it equipped us with all the necessary tools to be able to handle the job as an intern. All of my magnet classes, from the beginning, taught me all the necessary things in order for me to be ready for my “job.” The teachers, especially, helped us be ready this internship had in store for us. Because I was so ready for this internship, it had a positive influence on my life. Since day one, everyone impacted me in a different way where it made me feel accepted in some sort of way. This internship really opened my eyes to things that others don’t see; those who don’t share the same passion as me. I was able to go beyond the wall of commodity and experience true friendships. Before the internship, I wasn’t sure of what I wanted to do after high school but as I started to begin to get comfortable at the internship, I realized that my true passion is kids so I want to be a social worker who deals with children. One who puts the child’s life before theirs and loves what they do. Because I was an intern at NCCF, I acquired many skills that I did not know I have as well as abilities and characteristics.
