Many worry about the negative consequences Global Warming may have on our Earth. It is believed that there will be detremental effects from sea to land. A rise in water levels causing the icecaps to melt. Melting icecaps would then release methane another greenhouse gas. The oceans salt water would mix with freshwater and CO2 would get absorbed into the oceans causing disabling effects on our waters food chain.
Firstly, the Everglades are an important ecosystem which reduces flooding and replenish aquifers but human actions are having a huge impact on the landscape. The rapid urban and agricultural development in the area has decreased the size of the wetlands dramatically which affects the organisms found there. This is especially important as it is home to several endangered species. Not only that, but invasive species that threaten existing wildlife by preying on or competing with them. According to Everglades.org, they’ve “contributed to nearly 70 percent of extinctions in the United States” and are the “primary cause of species endangerment.” The water itself is a major cause of decline to the area, firstly because of poor water management leading to water levels being too low or too high at the wrong times has caused a decline in many species.
Answer = Based on research done by Elshout, Pires, Leuven, Bonga, and Hendriks, lower Dissolved Oxygen levels have a major impact on the fish population and reproduction. This is evident in nearby lakes and streams. Due to severe climate change, the ppm of dissolved oxygen has drastically decreased causing fish to relocate to bodies of water that will support their needs for survival. Due to sea level rising coral reefs are getting destroyed, as they cannot survive in water above 25m. Also the increase of sea levels changes the nutrient flow, which will further damage the food chains. Furthermore coral bleaching is another side affect of global warming which affects the coral reef. Coral bleaching is permanent damage and is effected globally. It gets especially worse during an El Nino year.

Purpose The purpose of this lab is to determine how an invasive species, in this case, the zebra and quagga mussel can have an affect on other species in the same habitat and how this can affect the ecosystem. Introduction A population explosion is caused when there is minimal environmental resistance. Minimal resistance can be caused by a decline in predator population, or by introducing an evasive species. Invasive species can experience a population explosion because they are not controlled right away by the normal environmental restraints of the ecosystem.
