This wasn't any regular cheer competition, this was the Special Olympics and this was my first time volunteering as a Unified Partner. It was my Senior year in high school. Thinking back I never would have thought I would be faced with the amazing opportunities that came to me during the school year. Just before I was making my schedule my principal approached me and asked me to become a Peer Mentor. She explained that I would be tutoring freshman and helping them with their school work for two class periods a day.
All I ever wanted was to be accepted by them. They all loved me and it was nice to be accepted by my older classmates. They took me places and did stuff with me that I had never been given the chance to do before. I really had a great year with them until drama began because my best friend was mad I left her for them. As I soon realized, high school was no different than middle school.
But the summer before my eight grade year I really wanted to learn how to play the drums. So I started taking lessons and I loved how difficult it was and I loved it. I had only been going to lessons for about two months and there was an incoming freshmen night for La Cueva at the Halloween football game and so we all went so we could play our instrument with the high
Strirpe Junior Guard Stripe When I finished Junior High, I didn't know what to do. Somebody proposed to me to go to the Junior Lifeguard camp. I was interested in this camp, and agreed with this idea. So I went to this camp, and you know what, I had a lot of fun. It was the best summer of my life.
In conclusion, last summer I learned so much about my team, dance and myself. Velocity made me so grateful for the gift that God has given me. After a long, exhausting week I earned National Senior Male Maximum Velocity Artist 1st Runner-Up. The knowledge and friendships I gained from that week can never be taken away from me and I would not of asked for it any other
however, I knew that I wasn't giving myself another choice. After all, I was taught to finish everything I do with the same motivation that I started it with. Needless to say, I was proud of myself for being named captain my junior year. I felt I had earned that title and would give my best to my teammates. I've participated in an array of clubs and organizations that required commitment and dedication, and as a result, gained lasting friendships and
That Saturday night was the night that the marching band, MY marching band, won the biggest marching competition in Missouri. That band was my entire life and was the reason I went to school every day and felt like music helped me learn and retain information. It was actually a mutual feeling through the band. Music brought friendship and a sense of being to the members of the band. In retrospect, I would be nowhere I am today without the music classes I took in high school.
Victoria Peterson Discourse community Ethnography paper Professor Dennis March 23, 2015 Have you ever been among people who are very much like you? That it does not matter what differences you have you all have a lot more in common. In this paper, I will prove that I entered the discourse community of high school band by acquiring content knowledge, establishing my credibility, and learning to sway other members of the community. Writing this paper gives me confidence because it shows that I already have experience joining a discourse community. It also gives you, my instructor, and you, my classmates, a chance to know more about me.
I remember using cocaine for the first time and falling in love. Boy was I in for it. I had no idea what the next 15 years of my life was gonna be like. I got thru my Senior year barely due to my addictions and graduated. I started to go to community college for a little while but couldn’t seem to stay focused on anything but getting messed up with my friends and nothing really bad had happened, meaning no consequences for anything so why not keep on partying?
I can relate to Amir because growing up in the 90’s my family taught me the values of hard working success. They were raised in a poor hometown and worked for everything they have. In everything I did, my biggest joy was to make my parents proud in everything I tried. I knew as long as I worked hard they would be proud of me. Throughout my childhood, my brother was always the better athlete; of course, our three-year age difference gave him the advantage.
