Report on 3 Local Mental Health Agencies The three local agencies I decided to report on are Region 8, Mississippi State Hospital, and Harbor House. All of these agencies serve the community in many areas such as substance abuse, mental illness just to name a few. Region 8 Mental Health Services is staffed with qualified administrators, therapists, case managers and physicians who provide services without regard to national origin, race, age, sex, handicap, sexual orientation, political or religious beliefs. Their services are offered with respect for all of their clients, family members, significant others, professional and community members, in the most efficient, most effective manner possible. Their programs and services are designed around Twelve Step addiction recovery fellowships such as Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous and take place in a highly structured residential environment. The daily regimen focuses on the unique physical, emotional, mental and spiritual needs of each client to arrest the disease of addiction and restore responsible behavior. The goal is to rehabilitate each individual so that they are able to return to the community sober and productive. Their goal is to treat each client with dignity and respect and believe that clients need to participate actively in their treatment and rehabilitation. Daily activities for the Primary program (about 42 days) include completing assigned chores,participating in individual and group counseling, attending lectures on addiction and recovery and Twelve Step meetings and practicing sober living and socialization skills. As clients advance from Primary to Secondary (30 to 60 days) and Extended (up to one year) residential treatment, the program offers budgeting/banking, cooking/shopping and time management skills. Clients in the Second and Extended phases are required to obtain employment within the first 30 days of admission to these
