LEGISLATION ASSIGNMENT. Roughly 132 children in a number of Leicester care homes at some point experienced what was known as a pindown, between 1983-1989. Pindown was a punishment young people would b given for absconding, petty theft or violence. The young people would be subjected to the worst elements of institutional control, such as isolation and humiliation. As a result of this child abuse the children's act 1989 was produced and from the 15th January 1992 every child in the UK were protected by the united Nations. The children's act 2004 means easier access to information for the families and children and earlier support for the parents that are experiencing difficulties and multiple agencies working together effectively and integrated planning and delivery of services. The statement of purpose in residential settings guides the young people through what services they can expect from the home an how they can expect to be cared for. The national minimum standards state that a young person must have their needs assessed effectively and have a written placement plan which outlines their needs and how they will be met. Children's needs and development are reviewed regularly. The young people we care for are encouraged to make decisions about their lives and their day to day care and activities. They re encouraged and supported in maintaining contact with there family member's and friends and other significant people in their lives. We encourage them to develop positive impact on their future. All our young people are protected from abuse and bullying and are treated with respect. They also have the privacy of there own rooms and are given opportunities of any child who is not in care. Some area's of the data protection requires a social worker or parents signature on all consent forms. All visitors to the home must show a form of I.D before been allowed access and must sign the visitors book. All young people must be protected from inappropriate persons able to obtain any information about the young people in my care and that of the team. HEALTH AND SAFTEY AT WORK ACT 1974. This act was produced to make provision to secure the health and safety, of the person at work. The act is to protect other's against risks to health and safety, in connection with the activities of the young persons with in the work place for controlling and keeping the use of dangerous substances. To make further respect to the employment medical advisory service to amend the law relating to building regulations and the building Act 1959(Scotland) for connected purposes. In order to comply with this law, the team and myself must carry out weekly Health and safety checks and record them. All chemicals are kept in a locked storage cupboard along with the protected clothing equipment etc. and a COSHH document is on file for each chemical used as per COSHH regulations.
