Just before he retired, one of his daughters and one grandchild passed away. A few months before Jefferson died he counted his blessings and decided that he had a good life. On his deathbed he handed his last daughter the last letter he wrote telling her a true goodbye. I think that this article was a good article because it shows that Thomas Jefferson actually cares about his family and not just politics. One reason for this is the article says “His political duties often forced him to be away but, he wrote hundreds of letters sharing news, giving advice, and occasionally scolding.” Meaning, even after his long days of work he still managed to find time for his two daughters.
Ivan's closest friends are more worried about who will be next in line for promotion when he is gone, and at his funeral they are more concerned over a bridge game than grieving for the loss; his friends and even his wife are incapable in feeling true grief. They are all completely consumed by themselves. Depression snuck up on me like old age will, forty times quicker. Ilyich manages to cover his depression by compartmentalizing his feelings from his thoughts and by becoming a workaholic. Obsessed
I was lucky.” The main highlighted purpose I observed in this story was the use of expression as well as comparison and contrast and a second pattern of illustration to describe how he became such a great writer in his life. Throughout the story, I found the author uses the expressive purpose when he reveals himself as a low class trying to survive when he says, “We were poor by most standards.” He then goes on giving a second example of expressive purpose when he clearly shares the same interest as his father by saying, “My father loved books, and since I loved my father with an aching devotion, I decided to love books as well.” These two examples are very clear to me that Alexie is expressing his feelings as well as revealing himself to the reader by describing his economic status as a child, as well as his emotions of loving his father and books. On the other hand, Alexie main pattern of the story is comparison-contrast. This pattern is highlighted when he is comparing himself to his peers. He mentions how the other Indian kids struggle with basic reading in school, while he was reading newspaper, bulletins, junk mail and anything he could possibly read.

Many people don’t come out healed; they come out different. No one wants to suffer. But we all do at some time. When I read the article “what suffering does” by David Brooks, made me understand that even though people always look for happiness, but feel formed through suffering. We suffer, and people suffer around us, in so many different ways.
Personally, I say they are a hero. Theres no reason to conform to the stereotypical beliefs that are so well known. Being a hero to oneself and dying with pride and appreciating life until its end is more than enough of a reason to be a hero. The events of the story lead the reader to question Fahrquhar’s sanity and possibly view his death as a tragedy. Critical essays on Ambrose Bierce by Casey Davidson agrees with this view, “We are now and momentarily inside the protagonists brain, and that brain is definitely Beck 2 malfunctioning” (203).
Sherman Alexie does an excellent job with the story when we read that throughout Arnold’s life, he had to go through three deaths. The death of his grandma, his father’s friend Eugene and his sisters. An article by Joyce Myer states that “Being angry with God is quite common. People frequently ask, "If God is good, all-powerful, and full of love for us, why didn't he stop the thing that caused the death?”” This is what Arnold was doing when he found out his grandma and Eugene had been killed. He said “I was mad at God; I was mad at Jesus.
I realize that not everyone will be your best friend, but if I spend time obsessing over it and begin to hate them, it will just bring down my own life. Although if I love them, or like them I will go on not worrying about all the hate and live happier. I am trying to incorporate some of the life lessons from each of the three books into my own life, so I can allow myself more personal fulfillments and cease the opportunity at an unbelievable life. Feeling fulfillment in life can allow someone to feel happy and realize what they have been working hard for will come in the
Making it on your own At times people tend to work well while they are under pressure. To others they simply must be under pressure to get work done and give their full effort. In her article In Praise of the F Word, Mary Sherry argues “Flunking as a regular policy has just as much merit today as it did two generations ago. We must review the threat of flunking and see it as it really is- a positive teaching too.” By making it clear to students that flunking can definitely be a result of them not putting in the time and effort in assuring they pass their class will make them more determined to learn and earn their good grades, it will also help stop those students who choose not to even try in their classes. Also by making students fear failure it will not only motivate them
You have to trust in something- your gut, destiny, life, karma whatever.” Trusting his instincts, according to Jobs, never let him down. Congruently, I realize that I have a hard time believing in myself or understanding the importance of my everyday activities, including and English Composition 107 class. However, Jobs has inspired me to appreciate my place in life now because, ultimately, if I allow myself to trust my instincts regarding the choices I am making now, all the connection in my life will eventually lead me to the success I am seeking in life. Next, Jobs spoke about the relationship between love and loss and how lucky he was to find out early what he loved to do in life. Although Jobs loved working for the apple for the apple company, a company that he started in his parent’s garage, he was fired.
