There are a lot of gender differences in patterns of crime, from which gender commit more crime to which crimes each gender commits more of. In this essay I will be giving explanations on why this different patterns in crime for gender happen. Men have a higher crime rate than women but the gap in this crime rate is slowly closing in recent years. Some Sociobiologists have the explanation that it is biological for the reason women are less likely to commit crimes than men. They argue that women have a more natural desire to be caring and this does not correspond to the values of crime, so they are less likely to offend due to them not having the nature to commit the crime.
Do you agree that Shakespeare presents Beatrice and Katherina as “offending against society’s expectations about women”? The idea that both Beatrice and Katherina offend against society’s expectations of women in the plays Much Ado About Nothing and The Taming of the Shrew is open to personal interpretation. We must take into account which society it is we are suggesting they are offending against, if we are judging it on Shakespearean society’s expectations we could, in theory, agree with the statement, due to the fact that at that time, women were largely expected to be submissive, quiet and respectful to the superior sex, males. However, it would not be correct to say that Beatrice and Katherina offend against modern day expectations of women. Further to this, it would also depend on at which point in the play we are making our judgement.
Although some perspectives on the subject claim women live in bad faith and put themselves in situations to be defined as a body part, if there was no routine of male’s looking or the notion to dominate and females attention starvation or feelings to please, there would be no need for a dominant and submissive relationship. Overall it seems woman will be in a constant battle overcoming their gender because it’s society and that’s just how it works. Whether it’s right or wrong, at the end of the day, if nothing drastic is done for change, then it is what it is and people will conform to
These examples just shows how confusing it is in identifying sexual harassment today. How would you answer Limbaugh’s points if you were arguing for the opposition to each of the two points you have selected? For the first point, I would argue that women should not have so much power over men because men were created as the head and as such women should respect their authority. For the second point, I would say that sexual harassment should be limited to only sexual behaviors that are forced unto women and not be based on a man trying to win a woman over by his advances. Sexual harrassment refers to sexual actions.
Women during this time were only allowed to go so far and do so much without being restrained it seemed like. She doubts herself in letters she sends to her female friends who sympathize with her problems in choosing her partner for marriage. As a result to her resent of her thoughts about female powerlessness, and her outspoken thoughts of marriage. Virtue also resulted in achievement of morality, which was identified with marriage. Also Eliza resisted the sexual double-standard which I found really amazing.
This created a greater sexual relationship between the wife and the husband. They were less willing to allow their children to get into their relationship. They wanted fewer children to work on their relationship. This was one of the reasons birth control was created. This created a freer woman that was able to smoke, drink and wear clothing that was considered seductive.
The motivation for passing as white woman in Clare's life does not mean that she feels that being African American is below being white, but she feels that passing allows her to escapes the struggles that most African American's faced at the time and she will further be able to endure greater economic and social opportunities. The way Irene only "passes" as a white woman when she feels is necessary shows that passing to her means that the color of her skin is something she can use to her advantage and doesn't fully respect her race. Though she is married to a successful African American man, she still feels that her high status in the black society is not enough as times. Through Irene's character, Larsen shows readers that passing as a different race can severely shred the dignity of a person. Irene is generally proud of being African American but when she passes as a white woman on occasion, you can tell that she loses some of her dignity since she feels as if she is sinking down to Clare's level.
Evening Things Out Affirmative action in the eyes of some can be considered to be the compromise for reparations. To others it can be looked at as an opportunity for women to be looked at as equals in comparison to their male colleagues. But those who don’t fall into either of those categories look at affirmative action as reverse discrimination or racism. There is an argument that there is truth in all of those statements, but it is more prevalent in the first two than the latter. Minorities were never given the appropriate chance they deserve, and women still can’t get the respect they deserve in the workplace.
Women have the capability to become educated and have a higher impact on society other than just through domesticity. Opponents of allowing women to pursue higher education and professional jobs say that it will upset social order and destroy femininity. This is a small price to pay for equality even if it is true. The opponents also say that women are incapable of this completing this education and working in professionally. This is not true because rich women are already going to college, so why cannot this be expanded, and even when women were denied professional jobs, women like Jane Addams showed their capability in places other than the work
They could not wear anything too revealing like nothing above ankle length or anything that showed off their skin. But by wearing make up women would be a little freer to show how sexual they could or would be. This did not mean to wear globs of make up but just enough to get a potential mate’s attraction. The idea of make up has changed over time and it seems that the more a woman puts on the less attractive she is but if the women wears none she is seen to not care much about her appearance. There is a thin line women have to tread but we seem to be during it
