Summary of the Acts: Act one: William Shakespeare’s play Othello in scene one starts off in the streets of Venice where wealthy Roderigo and Iago are arguing. Roderigo has been paying Iago to help him win Desdemona’s hand, and he has just learned that Desdemona has married Othello, a general whom Iago serves as an ancient. Iago tells Roderigo that he hates Othello too; the reasoning for this is Othello promoting Michael Cassio to the post of lieutenant, instead of Iago. The two men come to the street outside the house of Desdemona’s dad, Brabantio, and yell that he has been robbed. Brabantio, who is a Senator, comes to the window. He doesn’t believe what he hears about his daughter because he has told Roderigo to stay away from his daughter before. Iago crudely tells Brabantio that his daughter and Othello are having sex by saying that they are “making the beast with two backs”. The senator then comes out anger about his daughters’ disappearance and orders his men to find her. In scene two of Othello, Iago arrives at the motel, there he warns Othello of what is happening. When Iago and Othello are interrupted by Cassio, the new lieutenant, and says that the Duke urgently needs him. On their way there, they meet up with the search party; Brabantio accuses Othello of using drugs, or magic on his daughter and demands a trial. In scene three, everyone arrives at the council meeting, the duke and peers decide the Turkish fleet will land in Cyprus. When Brabantio speaks he tells of the use of drugs Othello must’ve used, when the duke demands proof Desdemona is summoned to tell her side. According to her their marriage was completely based on love. The duke dismisses the case and proceeds with more pressing matters. When asked if Desdemona could stay with her father he denies and disowns her. Desdemona then chooses to go with Othello to Cyprus. Iago and Roderigo are
