This could also make them very anxious as it is a new environment for them. They may not know anyone in their new school/college. They could also feel really happy about it as it also gives them the opportunity to meet new people and make new friends. Another common transition experienced by children and young people is moving up through the school years. This could make the child feel anxious and apprehensive about meeting their new teacher, if they are in high school they may also be feeling anxious and worried about their new timetable and getting used to it.
A student’s participation in various activities throughout the community opens the door to not only a better society, but also an improvement in the student’s morality and character. The Dalton School’s mission statement argues that one who is involved in community service “will feel a sense of accomplishment” and their ability to connect with others is enriched. Being that technology is so advanced these days, students are commonly dependent on their electronic devices to get them through the day. Such devices set students back from lending a hand to others due to the fact that they are often distracted by social media and improving society’s view of themselves. By requiring students to take a break from technology and lend a helping hand, they become better people because the student then realizes the importance of human interaction and how just a simple smile can brighten someone’s day.
This does not mean that parents have no rights to what happens to their child while they are at school but this allows school to guide student behaviors though discipline. This idea is called in loco parentis (pg. 378). This concept was once more important in schools than it is now but it has brought forth it idea that no matter the student, disabled or not, there needs to be a certain level of responsibility put on all students for their behaviors when they are at school. This would be a great chapter of the book for parents to read because it would help them to understand why the school is doing what it is doing.
Another reason why a student would have to dropout is because their family needs finical help. Whether it be a parent sick, or a loss of a parent, or they just cannot make ends meet, that’s a heavy responsibility on a student and they would not be able to do both. In my opinion, the most important reason a student drops out is because they fall behind in school, and there is no way for them to catch up. Whatever the reason is, it is important for students to know that there are options. Distance learning is a great way to get back on track with school and get students motivated to graduate and start college.
Without grades, how else would we assess and measure a student’s abilities in a practical way that can be used for this? Without grades every applicant would have to get brought in to an interview or something similar. This would take a lot of time and become extremely tedious. Grades are not only beneficial to students after graduation, but they benefit students and teachers during school as well. Grades are clear and distinct indications of how a student is performing in school.
First of all, many students have after school jobs that they have to maintain. Some families rely on their kids to provide either for themselves or for their families. An extra two hours of school might not allow kids the ability to juggle school and work at the same time. Also if the school day is two hours longer, students that work will not have enough time to maintain a social life or even be able to keep their jobs. Extending the school day may do more harm than good.
It has been known for some time that the issue of whether or not people should take part in more Volunteer activities is always a contentious one. Some people suggest that unpaid community service should be a compulsory part of high school programs, while some argue that it is not necessary. It is my belief that encouraging student to work in community services is always a good idea. The principal reasons for my view are as follow. First, there are many ways of acquiring social skills that students must have when they develop into adults and doing voluntary activities is one of those.
Teenagers adapt to their surroundings in order to live, and in a non conventional sense, reproduce. The adaptations they have to make are a little different, however in a sense, it does include shedding one's skin and growing a new, possibly tougher one. High school students have to adapt to socially constructed levels; height, sexuality, weight, grades, social life, socio-economic standards, the list goes on. In essence, they survive by changing themselves, whether for better or for worse. For most teenagers, school is as much a popularity contest as it is an opportunity to further one's education, maybe even more so.
Implementing School Uniforms Implementing school uniforms will increase academic performance and reduce behavioral problems. While this is a temporary solution to the permanent problem of getting students to strive for achievement, the implementation of school uniform policies, especially at this pivotal point in time in our countries future, is one way we could help young people to realize their potential thru improving the over all quality of education in our country. While students and parents face many daily struggles that distract them from more important things, financial issues can be sited as one of the biggest struggles facing families and individuals these days. School uniforms provide a low cost alternative to expensive designer clothing. Students whose parents can’t afford expensive clothing can be spared the harsh words and jeers from their peers, allowing them to blend in instead of being singled out as poverty stricken or less fortunate then others, thus giving all the students the outward appearance of equals.
Sociological studies show that school uniforms help to improve academic performance. People are apt to change their action depending on what they are wearing. Since school uniforms set a serious atomosphere in the classroom by removing distractions, students may achieve their goals easier. Also, teens are sensitive to their appearance. According to some parents, their children waste as much as an hour in front of the mirror getting ready for school.
