However, her mother thought of her daughter as a failure and they did not get along very well. The parable connects to this chapter because in both the mothers came to America for a better life for their children but it did not turn out how they wanted it to. Scar is about a girl who is raised by her grandmother, brother, aunt, and uncle. Her father died and her mother was a dishonor to the family who left An-mei when she was a little girl. Her mother became a polygamist in China and therefore disgraced herself.
Women were another vulnerable group because they were always paid at a lower rate than men. There was no safety net for people who fell into poverty other than resorting to the ‘workhouse’ which had been established to deal with cases of extreme poverty in Trade unions had little power as the Taff Vale Incident of 1901 showed and Friendly Societies could only provide a limited amount of help. Attitudes to poverty in the early 20th century were quite unsympathetic many politicians from both the Liberal and Conservative party felt that poverty came from personal laziness. Both parties had an attitude of “laissez-faire” i.e. non interference from the government.
Kimsey's mother values money. She doesn't work at all and she forced her daughter to work as a prostitute to earn a living. She complains when her daughter doesn't get enough money and gets mad for a reason that her daughter is having a good time while she's left at home taking care of her granddaughter. This makes the viewers feel anger to Kimsey's mom because she doesn't appreciate the sacrifices of her daughter. Kimsey's values are completely different to her mom.
Curley’s wife Curley’s wife Curley’s wife was first introduced into the novel when Lennie Small and George Milton first came to the ranch. She is doesn’t really have a name she is seen as a possession to her husband .she is a really good looking lady and she dresses up quite heavily with her make up as well but she’s doing that only to hide her true identity she is the only woman on the ranch and she is quite lonely and sad. She married Curley which for her was a big mistake and which made her life worse She always said that a movie star would send her a letter when he got back from Hollywood that she would be an actress but that didn’t happen she always blamed her mum for that she thought that her mum hid the letter so she wouldn’t
The similarities and differences from both stories are that both women are in unhappy marriages, the theme of the stories, the irony, the symbolism, they were written using the third-person point of view, both had loving husbands, and the end of both stories are sad and tragic. The short story “The Necklace” by Guy de Maupassant is the story of a young woman named Mathilde Loisel and her husband-the little clerk of the Ministry of Public Instruction. Mathilde lived a poor life, which made her to suffer. She had the dream to be rich, to have beautiful clothes and jewels. Throughout the whole story she would complain of being poor and her embarrassment.
In the story, Stella-Rondo, who is the younger sister of Sister, tries to turn Papa-Daddy against Sister, and tells a lie to Papa-Daddy that Sister thinks he should have cut his beard. The lie makes Papa-Daddy very angry. However, Sister fails to show her innocence because she doesn’t have a clear communication with Papa-Daddy to let him know the truth which she has never said that. She just simply leaves the table when Papa-Daddy is blaming on her, gives up the chance clarifying the truth (44). Sister is not confident enough to communicate with Papa-Daddy.

After Janie and Teacake got married she had all the fears and doubts in the world, especially after he stole her money. But after returning from gambling the money away with almost double of it back she realized she wanted to be a part of everything Teacake did. “…Janie looked down on him and felt a self-crushing love.
While living with her abusive father who she chooses to only call T. Ray, Lily feels that she is lacking certain femininity in her life. She battles with her hair which was “constantly going off in eleven different directions” (Kidd 3) and when she woke up with a rose-petal stain on her panties she was “so proud of that flower and didn’t have a soul to show it to except Rosaleen”(13). Rosaleen is Lily’s housekeeper and one of her only friends. Lily’s curiosities about her mother lead her to the attic where she finds some of her mother’s belongings. Lily keeps everything she finds of her mother’s in a small tin buried in the orchards outside her house.
Mallard and the narrator of “The Yellow Wallpaper” were clearly trapped by society because of their gender and the roles that they would have to fulfill. Although it was not stated in “The Story of an Hour” if Mr. and Mrs. Mallard had children, we do learn as readers that John and his wife from “The Yellow Wallpaper” do have a child “….Such a dear baby! And yet I cannot be with him, it makes me so nervous” (480). The narrator of “The Yellow Wallpaper” is clearly affected by the fact that another women is taking care of her child even if it just for a short amount of time while she is recovering from her nervous depression. Because at that time period women were supposed to take care of their children that was their job and to have another woman do it she more than likely didn’t feel like she was doing her job.
These cultures see women as only able to do house work and not big things like being a doctor, engineer, business owner, etc… this is very wrong because women are now taking over many of the big jobs out there. The Mirikitani wrote on her poem “If only I were a son” showing that the girl was a victim of this type of behavior being demonstrated by he parents. (377). The girl that is being portrayed in this poem must have thought that being a girl wasn’t a good thing. The parents of the girl who wrote this poem are possibly part of this group, resulting in the girl herself believing that she is inferior to men.
