First the pro side, the first main issue is the fact that the 32 million Americans that don’t have health care will now have access to health care coverage. Many Americans can’t afford health care coverage and this policy lowers the cost so that more Americans will have the opportunity to get the coverage they need. Another pro is that people with preexisting conditions can no longer be denied coverage. Insurance companies have been getting away with denying people the coverage they need because they either get sick or because they have a preexisting condition and this policy puts an end to all of that. Lastly, the amount of personal bankruptcies will be reduced.
Jean King, Cancer Research UK's director of tobacco control, (2008) said: "The smoke-free law was introduced to protect the health of workers from the harmful effects of secondhand smoke. The results show it has also encouraged smokers to quit. These laws are saving lives and we mustn't forget that half of all smokers die from tobacco-related illness. We must do everything possible to continue this success – we now need a national tobacco control plan for the next five years." Because smoking is optional and breathing is not, UK government ban
With less space each year for landfills and rubbish tips, the process of disposing of rubbish which is not recycled is increasingly being moved overseas to countries like China. Although this may be seen as creating jobs, it is having a major effect on people’s health and the environment. Beijing’s concentration of PM 2.5 particles – those small enough to penetrate deep into the lungs and enter the bloodstream are dramatically rising. The World Health Organization recommends a safe level of 25 micrograms per cubic metre, earlier this year this level rose to 505 micrograms”. Due to this, cigarette manufacturers can raise the price of cigarettes to cover the lost wages due to the law suits. By increasing costs, they increase revenue, and the millions in law-suits do not affect them. They could evaluate their supply and decrease the supply (if in any way possible) which will lower the internal manufacturing costs, while still raising the revenue. This could prove to have a huge payout in the end. If this were done, the market equilibrium
As seen on the income statement by accounts receivable and annual credit sales Amazon was able to decrease the amount of days it took to collect on accounts receivable. The financial state of Amazon at this point of review, as some concerns with common stock outstanding, this led to the period in which the income statement shows a $-39 million dollar on net income. In 2012 sales did increase only due to more electronic transactions, new innovative Internet transactions and the rise in shipping costs, due to this there was a significant rise in prices of the products that Amazon sells. In 2013 Amazon must increase net income and retained earnings in order to continue to be a successful corporation.
In the UK, alcohol causes 12,500 cases of cancer, around 4%.I also think this strategy is easy to follow as there’s no need to stop drinking alcohol completely, just less of it. It’s a positive strategy as it helps people save money rather than spend it but there’s also people out there who are alcohol dependant or even get peer pressured into it. Breast screenings or X-Rays can be a positive strategy for breast cancer, even though it may already show that the patient has breast cancer, they may be able to catch it
Every year our state has to spend a large sum of money on supervising marijuana because it is illegal. But once Proposition 19 is passed, those marijuana offenders and drug traffickers will be innocent. “The measure could result in savings to the state and local governments by reducing the number of marijuana offenders incarcerated in state prisons and county jails, as well as the number placed under county probation or state parole supervision”(Brown 14). This could save California millions of dollars annually.
The price of fuel does influence them though, the biggest benefit is the effect on the customers, the lowering of the price of fuel means that people will, in effect, have a small pay rise, this will help KI as this will increase their customer’s disposable income and increase their consumer confidence. KI will always have oil related costs linked to their business as they use energy that is produced from oil and resources that wouldn’t be possible without oil e.g. polymers. The lowering of the oil price will help KI to maximise profits as they will be spending less on things that are oil based. KI may see people coming from further afield as the customers may thing that this drop in fuel price will allow them to live further away from their jobs or travel further to work.
Despite year on year fluctuations, Walsall tPCT is still on track to meet the 2010 target. How Walsall Compares Cancer mortality in the under 75s has fallen slightly faster in the West Midlands as a whole and in England than in Walsall. This means that the inequalities gap between Walsall and some other West Midlands districts and the national average has widened. In 2003-05 the Walsall rate remained 10% higher than the England average rate (14% higher for men and 4% higher for women). Eliminating the inequalities gap would save an additional 33 lives per year in
The production of olive oil in Spain has been stinted due a drought, “reduc[ing] total global output by around 20% compared with a year ago.” The drought caused a decrease in supply of olive oil (fig. 1). This leads to the increase in price of olive oil from P1 to P2, while the quantity supplied and quantity demanded decreases from Q1 to Q2. Over the past three months, this increase has been so rapid that prices have risen by over 50%, and is speculated increase will continue. For Spain, this may be a disadvantage, but other countries see this as an opportunity to shine in the olive oil market.
