Macbeth is a tragic play written by William Shakespeare and the reason why it is considered a tragedy is because of all of the bloodshed that happens through out the play. Characters are killed from every from the battlefield to the comfort of their own homes and no one is safe. Everyone from traders to innocent children where killed in this play and most of them by Macbeth’s hands. The question is though is Macbeth really to blame for all the murders? The answer is no the witches are because without the withes Macbeth probably would not have felt the need to kill anyone. Macbeth was loyal to his country and was considered a hero by all. He had won the favor of the king and would have received the title of Thane of Cawder by earning it with…show more content…
The witches give Banquo the prediction of “‘Thou shalt get kings, though thou be none’ ” (Shakespeare 9). The reason to blame the witches is because before this prediction Macbeth and Banquo were best friends. Then when Macbeth becomes king he fears that Banquo will try to kill him because he knows that Banquo’s heirs will some day have the crown. Macbeth no longer trusts Banquo and is driving crazy thinking that his friend will come after just to make sure that Macbeth’s heirs will never get the crown, so Macbeth orders the death of both Banquo and his son to make sure that there is no one else to take the crown away from him. The only reason Banquo is murdered is because Macbeth becomes paranoid after the witches prediction. Finally, the witches are responsible for the death of Macduff’s family. When Macbeth goes to see the witches to get more information the witches show him three apparitions one of witch tells Macbeth to watch out for Macduff. After hearing this Macbeth decides that he needs to send a message to Macduff and the way Macbeth does it is by killing Macduff’s family. Macduff’s family most likely would not have been murdered if the withes had not told Macbeth to fear
