Let Women Vote by Marlene Targ Brill This book is young adult literature is written down to the readers so the understanding of civil right can be more clearly, the book tell some stories of how the women right had been an impact in America society better said the fight for the nineteen amendment. The main focus of this book is to understand the story in how society discriminate women during several eras. The narrator explain the time frame in a different matter, he begin with the story of Carrie Chapman in what she did to fight for the women rights and what she saw, followed the chapters with more important personalities involved in this suffrage. Each chapter covers a different period, but they all share the same organization of describing the social, cultural, political, philosophical and scholarly aspects of the period in respective subsections. This made it easier to later refer to previous chapters and compare different periods in order to learn the comprehensive history of Woman suffrage Amendment into the United States Constitution.
The mission of the NAWSA was to fight for women’s rights and to also gain respect for all women in the United States. Alice Paul along with her friend Lucy Burns began to think of many ideas to help the suffrage movement but the NAWSA thought that their ideas were to extreme and would only cause problems for women in America. So Alice Paul and Lucy Burns started their own organization called the National Women’s Party or NWP. Which held the same concepts that the NAWSA but with a more radical or extreme approach. The NAWSA started criticizing the NWP for their methods and for protesting a president during the war.
That was one of the larges pushes for equality that had ever been dared to be spoken but yet, it was. Women wanted more control over planning a family, that was the legal change they desired. I know, think about it, we didn’t even have the say wether we wanted a large family or not. Many women, such as myself, thought it was a lot to ask, because women’s right to vote was still being advocated throughout the cities. But, through hard pushes, a women named Margaret Sanger rose to the stand, saying a women should have control over her own body.
Although women have the right to vote today, this is quite different compared with women’s condition back in the late 1800’s. Women were treated unfairly; they just belonged to their husbands who were able to control all of their rights and use a moderate coercion if they were disloyal or disobedient. Being a woman who is willing to break the rules to bring back a freedom life for all women, Susan B. Anthony tried to vote for a presidential election and was arrested due to being female in 1872. During her trial, Anthony published a speech “On Women’s right to vote”. In her speech, the main reason Anthony was successful in persuading her audience was that she clearly established an exigent circumstance early and effectively adapted her writing to the kairos of the moment.
The official beginning of women's rights movements is marked by the 1848 Seneca Falls women's convention and its resolutions calling for women's rights to legal adult status, access to all professions, and women's suffrage (the right to vote). Of the delegates, renowned black abolitionist Frederick Douglass and Elizabeth Cady Stanton, middle-class, white, feminist foremother, argued most strongly that women needed the right to vote in order to attain their other rights. The ideals of the women's suffrage movement drew on the liberal notion of the rights of the individual. In the 1970s, this same ideal was the foundation of a renewed, but unsuccessful, campaign for an Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) to the U. S. Constitution. Through the first wave of the women's rights movement, which ended when women gained the right to vote in 1920, through the second wave of the new women's movement, which began in the 1960s, and the contemporary third wave, women's movements in the United States have been linked to the struggles for civil rights for African Americans.
Obama explained how he wanted to make sure that young women are going to be able to compete in the market place. Meanwhile, Romney wants not only men but women to be qualified for his cabinet. This shows how Obama and Romney want to make an impact in women’s lives by giving them more opportunities and help them out. Obama and Romney also shared life experiences during the debate by using Pathos. Margaret Sanger on “Free Motherhood” from women and the New Race (1920) Almost, if not every American is aware of The Bill of Rights, the laws that our country is run by. The first and foremost amendment grants American the freedom of Speech, Press, Religion, and Petition. The question is, were these amendments not to be followed in the early1900’s? Margaret Sanger: an activist reformer in the 1900’s, a teacher, and a nurse. She tried to petition with her birth given rights of freedom of speech along with her knowledge to petition for women’s rights but was imprisoned for some doing so.
It gave birth to feminism ideas which saw women receive a high-level education like their male counterparts. It initiated gender neutrality in almost every domain in life. Women began pushing for rights to initiate divorce proceedings and asserted their reproductive rights. Women suffrage granted women the right to own property and enter into contracts on their own right. Active involvement of women in politics and governance through the ballot has had a profound effect on world politics and finance.
The Womens Movement: During the same period the Progressive challenge also extended to women. Like blacks, women were faced with the same dilemma: how do we achieve equality? Before 1910 those who took pert in the quest for women's rights referred to themselves as the woman's movement. This movement generally characterized middle-class women who wanted to escape the home by participating in social organizations, achieving a college education, or by getting a job. These social organizations, or Women's Clubs, gave women, who had no opportunity to serve in public office, a chance to affect legislation.
