Throughout the novel, To Kill a Mockingbird, by Nell Harper Lee empathy is ever present. Each character has a personal situation, perspective, or experience I can empathize with. However, the character I can empathize with the most throughout the novel is Scout. In the beginning of the novel, Scout has a very rough first day of school she gets into a fight with Walter Cunningham, and her teacher tells her that her father, Atticus, is teaching her how to read all wrong. I continued to walk into the line to get my lunch tray without turning around or even glancing at the students. As I reached the register to pay for my lunch I could still hear the laughing and whispering of the students as they approached the register behind me. After paying for my lunch I began to walk out of the lunchroom as I proceeded to walk out of the door I tripped over an apple someone had dropped on the floor. When I tripped over the apple I wasted the tray all over myself. My second experience was when a high school student bullied me. While I was at my locker the female student who was much taller and older than me walked up to me and told me to move out of her way. By being nervous and timid I did what the girl said and gathered my books and left my locker. When I got home I told my mom how horrible my day was and told her that I didn’t want to go back to school
