Thus in critical situations, a leader is more likely to be directive in style simply because of the implications of failure. We use these methods within our line management reviews and it’s a good way of setting positive targets for staff and being able to measure progress, it is also a way that is positive for the person who is undertaking the review and is intended to support people to achieve rather than fail, people who have not achieved targets set are able to reflect in reviews and be supported to complete targets.
