Sebastian Diaz 09-21-11 S.O.S Essay B1DA S.O.S Song of Solomon Essay In the book, Song of Solomon, Toni Morrison uses complex thinking and structure in her work to create the story of Macon “Milkman” Dead III and the life he lived until the end. Besides her complex structure and way of telling the story, her use of imagery is one of the most important figurative language in her story. As you all know imagery is the way the words are used to paint a picture in your head. Now, I can stop there and say that’s what imagery is and it would be the end of my essay. But it’s not. Besides painting a picture in your head, you use that picture to get an in depth understanding of that scene or part of the story. You use your interpretation of that scene and make an understanding for you and you alone. Imagery uses words or majestic sentences that appeal to the 5 senses we have.
