Nursing theories are concepts that define and guide nursing practice and nursing research. Guided by theories, nurses purposefully implement the nursing process systematically to deliver effective holistic nursing care efficiently. Nursing theories clarify and separate expert nursing profession from other profession that delivers care. It maintains the boundaries of the nursing profession. Nursing is a caring profession and caring endorses the profession and is central to nursing.
And yes, nurses are paid fairly well. Also, I think that nursing will allow me to maintain a good quality of life. However, there are discourses used in the nursing field that must be mastered in order to be a nurse. Discourse is important in every aspect of life, but when it comes to nursing, communication, medical terminology, patient confidentiality, and knowing the appropriate course of action for a specific situation are the keys to success. They form an important part of the broad spectrum of skills required in the nursing profession.

I’ve always wanted to do something with my life that is always changing and growing, and helping to better others. As a nurse practitioner there are never ending opportunities. There are so many different areas of work for a nurse practitioner to go into and they will always be helping somebody, whether it is to better there health or just maintaining it. To be a nurse practitioner I believe you will need to be versatile and ready for change. You will also need to be able to make decisions, and have great people and communication skills.

From my personal experience, I have come to understand the occupation of nursing as both, science and art. It demands dedication, intelligence, education, and the commitment to life- long learning from all individuals who aspire to be great nurses. Nursing focuses on the patient and more importantly, their needs. These needs encompass more than the physical body; thus, we must look to the psychological, social, and spiritual needs of our patients. In doing so, nurses must be care-givers and educators - providing the necessary information, skills and knowledge, to their patients to allow for self-nurturance, well-being, and growth.
Determining the level of readiness is vital before interdisciplinary teams can hope to accomplish successful dissemination of innovative and effective practices (Smith & Donze, 2010). Each organization will have challenges that are unique, but identification of barriers and facilitators to successful implementation is a key first step (Smith & Donze, 2010). Continuing my career in advance practice nursing will not only allow me to advance my role, but I will also be given the opportunity to prescribe medication, identify illnesses and handle overall patient care. There are many benefits to becoming an advance practice nurse. Financially I will be given an opportunity for higher paying jobs as well as being able to choose different work settings. Obtaining my MSN is very important to me because it will help me to better help others and make a enhanced difference in my patient’s lives. Health care changes daily and adding this degree will provide me with knowledge to expand my role and skills in helping others.
The challenge of entering into a vigorous program such as DNP will allow me to continue to enhance my skills and help me reach my career goal as an APN. I have what it takes to succeed based on my nursing and critical care experience. I want to continue to grow in nursing profession where there is learning, growing and giving back. During my time as a nurse, I have learned a lot about my strengths, grown professionally, and acquired a strong interest in special needs and emergency management. This particular focus, as well as the balanced theoretical, practical and academic nature of the DNP program is especially attractive to me, given my range of experience and interests.
This is when nursing goes from being a "job" to a personal calling. A good nurse answers that call with love, compassion and dedication. I see nursing as caring, loving, selfless and self giving acquisition of knowledge and advocacy. With these in mind, I incorporate the philosophy in nursing as described in (Masters, 2009 p.74-75). My personal belief is that what you give to your patients will come back to you.
