Trust is developed by clearly defining roles, expectations, and goals. This develops a familiarity between the different team members, which helps to produce a shared vision and reliance on each other and improves the team’s effectiveness (Bethea, Holland, & Reddick 2014). A highly effective team uses its shared vision and defined goals to foster a sense of group harmony. This allows for problems to be solved and goals to be achieved. With each problem solved or goal achieved, excitement grows within the team and a sense of accomplishment is felt once the process is completed (Bethea, Holland, & Reddick 2014). Highly effective teams are also proficient at the process of self –evaluation. These collaborations learn from each experience, gaining knowledge and skills to address the next challenge or situation. A collaboration’s honest critiquing of the care process encourages growth and leads to an even more effective team. #2 Effective collaborations though can only form if there are effective members on the team. Education, training, and incentives provide a basis for developing an environment to promote teams and teamwork (Taplin, Foster, & Shortell 2013). Education and training programs that emphasize collaborative care and team building are essential. Also, organizational leaders need to highly value this training and the concept of interprofessional collaborations. This can partly be accomplished during the hiring process by stressing team and teamwork values to prospective hires (Taplin, Foster, & Shortell 2013). Continuing training and coaching as collaborations work can provide encouragement during the process. Also, allotting time for the teams to meet outside of the direct patient care will allow members to help set agendas and evaluate progress and address issues. Providing incentives and recognition to effective collaborations also play roles in building successful teams (Taplin, Foster, & Shortell 2013). The organization can also aid in developing efficient workflows and set clear team rules. Also, it is important for team members to be involved in decisions that affect their team.
