M1- Asses the role of effective communication and interpersonal interaction in health and social care with reference to theories of communication Contexts of communication • One-to-one communication is communicating between two people, when first speaking to someone it is important to create a positive atmosphere before discussing issues or giving information. This is because it is important to make the other person feel relaxed while talking to you; you can start communicating by greeting the person, which shows you are being friendly. Once the atmosphere is positive and both people feel relaxed they can begin to talk about important issues or information, it is also important to leave the conversation ensuring the other person still feels relaxed and happy, therefore saying ‘see you soon’ can show this. This is different for more formal conversation and often follows three stages, starting with a warm up stage, and then exchanging information between the two people and finally a winding down stage. • Group communication can involve the same issues as one-to-one communication and also some more, such as how everyone feels, establishing a group leader, preparing what you are going to say and taking turns when speaking. It is important to ensure everyone within the group feels comfortable within the group and everyone is contributing therefore no one stays quite or keep the opinions to themselves, therefore it is important to ensure the group has a positive atmosphere, this can be by creating humour within the group. Some groups often have a leader or a chairperson, this is effective as it can encourage people to express their views/opinions and also encourage people to focus on a particular task. It is helpful to prepare what you are going to talk
