The purpose of my mission statement is to express my caring nature, selflessness, and motivation, by taking good care of my patients. By continuing my education, I hope to gain the confidence needed to showcase my professional strengths, ability to handle stressful situations, use critical thinking skills, and to never lose sight of the reasons I became a nurse to begin with, to touch the lives of my patients on a daily basis. Abstract Nursing informatics is an essential field in the nursing industry that deals with improvement of the processes of handling and managing health data and information with a view to increasing efficiency and objectivity in nursing care. Nursing informatics is a dynamic field and it comprises such disciplines such as computer science, information technology and nursing science. The specific aims of nursing informatics are to streamline skills in nursing practice and to minimize costs in nursing activities. Goossen’s nursing informatics framework model is a key focus as it has been in use for a long time and its high compatibility, efficacy and applicability have been evident. The framework consists of six elements namely: data; information; knowledge; decision; action; and evaluation.

They form an important part of the broad spectrum of skills required in the nursing profession. From this discourse community project, I learned that communication is the most important discourse in nursing. It is crucial for a nurse to communicate properly with doctors, and other nurses, in what can be life and death situations. One way that doctors and nurses communicate with each other is by documenting patient information. A nurse must always remember to read and document that information every time a patient visits.
Over the years, the key to high quality care is the integration of the multi-disciplinary approach. The team’s relationship and effort works well together, with the nurse staff playing the vital role. Nursing presence and influence cannot exist without the other. 1. From my personal experience, I have come to understand the occupation of nursing as both, science and art. It demands dedication, intelligence, education, and the commitment to life- long learning from all individuals who aspire to be great nurses. Nursing focuses on the patient and more importantly, their needs. These needs encompass more than the physical body; thus, we must look to the psychological, social, and spiritual needs of our patients. In doing so, nurses must be care-givers and educators - providing the necessary information, skills and knowledge, to their patients to allow for self-nurturance, well-being, and growth.
